SawTroll,

I would give just about anything to have a saw that that. I just don't have that kind of money. I just can't justify it. We have our third and final child in college and it is hard for me to have that kind of extra cash. We are trying to get to Africa for a Cape Buffalo hunt also. I will wait for my stock MS-460 and hope to get it by the middle or end of January. While I don't need the saw, I certainly want it. I have plenty of saws, but everyone seems to rave about Stihls and I have never owned one. I have run them, but personally have not owned any. I have always relied on my old Homelite saws and the two Echos I run. Most recently added an Echo CS-670 that seems to cut very well and I enjoy the bulletproof engines the Japanese produce. Don't run their cars or motorcycles, but enjoy their powertools. I know the German Stihls are great. Ran many German cars and I am of German ancestory, just never seemed to get one of their saws until now. As I stated in this post; it seems difficult to get the saw of my choice at this moment. I may be able to find one at another dealer, but the dealer I am visiting has been good to the family for an excess of thirty years and he gave me an excellent price (I think {$700}) for the 460 with a 24" b&c.

wagonwheeler,

People tell me it is a good buy. Glad you confirmed it because I didn't know. I never really priced Stihls much before. The only other Stihl I was looking at was the 361 and I think I got a price of about $590. I didn't get it as I just like bigger saws. Weight is of no concern to me as I am used to using a Super Wiz 66 at about 30+lbs. and have always run big Homelites C-72s, Super XL-925s, etc. I won't know how to act with a 6 hp. 14.3 lb. saw. My CS-670 is about 14.5 lbs. and that seems light to me. While it doesn't have the horsepower of the Stihl nor the displacement, it does cut well. I bought it after getting really mad at another Stihl dealer who lured me into getting a MS-390 and then not having the chain I wanted. Tried to get me to take the stupid safety chain with the saw and then order more aggressive chain as aftermarket. I immediately headed to the Echo dealer, who is a friend, and grabbed a CS-670 off the shelf. I told him I may be back for the CS-8000, but everyone here kinda steered me towards the MS-460. So, my first Stihl will be the 460. Sort of excited, but you know second guessing is setting in cause I have to wait. I hope I did the right thing. I ruminate alot and drive myself nuts. I think its a trait I inherited from my father. I keep looking at the 660. I don't need a saw like that, but what the heck. Hope I did the right thing. Anyone had any experience with the new 650? A bit smaller than the 660, but is it as durable? I tend not to get anything the first year it is offered. Paranoid I guess, but my money comes hard to me and I try not to be foolish. Anyway, I appreciate all that everyone has to offer to me. I always feel fortunate that other people offer me advice as I would rather hear it from users not floor salesmen who really don't walk-the-walk.
