Or... instead of a smaller pump, you could go with a larger cylinder, whichever is easier or cheaper. If the engine turns out not to drive the the pump to sufficient pressure, a larger cylinder will make more tonnage with lower pressure.

True, but I am already going to be running a 5" x 30" cylinder, so going bigger would probably slow me down too much.

5" cycle time: 12.2 seconds.

6" cycle time: 18.3 seconds (that's if both have 2.5" rods and all other components are the same).
 
I think it is going to be really well balanced, tough, durable set-up.

Not the fastest, but fairly quick and plenty quick for me. Not the highest tonnage, but plenty strong enough for what I will be using it for.
 
It'll be quieter than a gas engine too. I put a motorcycle muffler on that 18hp briggs and it helped, but a lot of the noise came from the engine itself rather than from the exhaust note.

edit... if I had the funds, I would love to build one with a 22-25hp Honda engine, the 28gpm pump, and a 5" cylinder with log lift and such.
