Perhaps one day when I grow up and become responsible, I can lay my hands on a 101 as well.

Until then I will just have to find some time to play with these old clunkers...

Be careful how you describe yourself as BP-1s are for adults only! Nevertheless I bet you can make some real hot rods out of your two clunker kart motors. Ron edit: I mean 3 kart motors.

Clunkers? They don't look like clunkers to me... they look like gold!!! :blob2:

Back in HQ after a day-long slog of familial obligations. A good time was had by most...

Way too whupped to risk boogering some magnesium so I'm mining catalogs tonight with the wallet out...

Relax, no 7ci price-jacking, I don't need anything sexy.

Checking the boxes next to rim sprocket, fuel tank gasket, head gasket, and reed parts.

God willing and the creek don't rise (and I'll go for 1 out of 2 with mother nature's behavior of late), tomorrow morning I'll get after that tank half to port match the carb. Then everything can go off to the powdercoaters next week.

!!!!!!

My lord!

Looks as if you're quite the capable saw builder. I'll have my eye on this one man.

I can't believe you have a Kart motor and one of Aaron's posts together in the same pic.

That's like the semi pretty girl taking her ugly friend with her to make her look prettier and boy, does that kart motor look pretty in that pic.

Dammit. I just went from "what the hell is he talking about" to choking on my beer once I saw my avatar pic on Charles' laptop screen. That post Charles made (with the brown booze, Kart engine, and my post on his screen) was months ago. Took me a few seconds to remember it.

Too damn my friend.

We gotta keep Aaron on his toes.

The Emperor gave direct orders to keep you on your toes. If we made you think we liked you you might get lazy and quit offering up all the information you have stored in your brain.

Sorry about the beer, my friend.

Got right after it this morning.

Lee, I stand corrected, the airbox IS .940 at the mounting face, behind it constricts. I checked again with my calipers before the dremel came out. The face is still .940, but now the back side blends to the chute and the front side I radiused over to get rid of that edge. Will it help? I don't know, but I had an hour of bliss jamming to Red Meat and makin' chips.

I pulled the stuffer off since it won't work. The kart one is gusseted, so it will not mate to the oiler tank like the 1-70 series one on the left. I'll get a stock 125 one that will mate up and save me the trouble of drilling the oiler impulse hole. For the record, the kart stuffer appears no different than the saw ones. A GEM stuffer is a different story. If I could find one of those, I'd be inclined to use it.

That aftermarket rod sure is tight on clearance, eh? Doesn't interfere at all though. The flash obscured it, but there is a relief grind on the block for the rod.

The shroud that came with the engine has a "MC-101" label and only an "A" stamped on the bottom, but the recessed exhaust gasket positively IDs this (and my other block for that matter) as a 101"B".

Probably going to do the carb kit tonight and call it a day.

Subscribing to this thread. Oh it's going to get interesting as you gather parts and build this. I going to have to come up there and visit once this is done. Great thread.

B&C in today from SK. 52" OAL, when mounted, it ought to have about 47-49 useable. No identifying marks on the bar, so who knows what brand. Included a loop of new Carlton .404 skip.

Stripped off old gasket goo and got the parts ready to go to the blaster and painter tomorrow.

Then, I spent some time getting to know the 101. Here's a look at the boost ports from the combustion side (they're the 2 at bottom).

attachment.php

Here you can see one of the 2 looking through the intake side of the block. The piston is shaped so as to create a transfer channel between the piston and the cylinder wall. The piston is shaped to funnel the charge into the boost port pockets and timed to feed it around the rings and into the pockets during its sweep downward.

I still don't thoroughly understand the dynamics of port timing, but the kart engines offer the chance to see it rather than visualize it because we can take the head off.

TDC is a no-brainer. So here's what the 101 shows us about it's cycle.

Piston at exhaust open.

Piston at transfer open (the boost ports unshroud moments later).

Piston at BDC. Reverse the photos to go to compression.

This one has a keyed crank on the clutch side.

Have yet to determine which flywheel I've got. I'll check PNs tomorrow.

Man that is looking real good!!!! I just noticed a week or so ago messing with another project that at BDC the intake ports are open. The whole porting on these still have me a bit confused LOL.

Not much shop time lately. Pulling season came early for me this year, I've never worked a pull before Memorial Day. Day job has heated up, too. It's okay as parts continue to trickle in.

My current mental debae hinges on the manual oiler. In the pic, you can see the circle at the base where the rod would go, but it is tight fit between the passage and the chain guard boss. What has been done in this area? Go ahead and drill my block or leave it and rely on the auto to do the work?

This is why I was so hopping mad about this thing not coming in. I knew I'd get hyper busy, I always am in summer. Had it been in back in early March when I bought it, I'd have knocked it out quicker. Anyway, it'll be done eventually.
