I'm calling a night. It runs and only needs to be tuned and check the oiler functions.

Sorry Sir Mark, we will try not to disappoint.

I've been on the road and out of the shop. I may have some pics soon if I can deliver this 805 to Ron. I haven't put a bar on it so no cutting videos right now. I'll deliver it clean so Ron can break it in.

Fine Mark, you want a reply? Your bar is on upside down!:D my oil tank for the 3-10E will be here tomorrow. Then it will be 3-10e build thread.

Well can't do anything till Mon. got to get some chains sharpened these past service. Mark the 1-46 is working out good even with the messed up chain of mine. I'll have to get a bar in the future for it.

Ok lets get this started. I recived this 3-10E from a fellow member. I have always wanted an electric start 10 series but the only place I could find them was ebay and they always go for ridiculous prices on there. We worked out a deal and a few days later this showed up on the porch. When we opend the box my 3 year old daughter replied, "Another chainsaw daddy? Is this one mine?" So with alittle help, I was able to acess the condition of the saw.

It was locked up but we figured it was just because it sat in a damp shead too long. When I tried to remove the flywheel nut the piston broke free but was very rough feeling. Apon dismantling the saw it became clear that it was not very good at all. The entire crankcase was trashed. All the bearings and I mean ALL of them where either extremely pitted or completely locked up. The crank was pitted and the piston was corroded. I immediately thought this was the end as an early cylinder with a DSP valve are alittle hard to come by. But the cylinder cleaned up great after a light honing. it's really a shame the condition of the engine as it appears the saw was run as a demo and then put on a shelf. There was actually paint on the botton of the saw and the muffler wasn't even carboned up!IMG_20140112_183030.jpgIMG_20140112_182939.jpgIMG_20140112_182953.jpgIMG_20140112_183014.jpg

Ok now it gets interesting. The oil tank after the corrosion was removed revield three large holes in the crankcase. No fixing that! I found another tank and should be here tomorrow. Just fyi, the oil tank has two bosses cast into it to attach the stator to the saw, it is unique to the electric start 3-10 and 10-10. The fuel tank also had horrible corrosion on both halves. The top cover had two holes in it before I even started to clean it they where that bad. The lower handle I tried to clean since it too is unique to the e series but found two holes in it. The carb was the flatback mcculloch which also was destroyed with corrosion. I've decided to convert to a walbro SDC for ease of parts availability. Here is how I converted this plane jane handle from a 10-10 to fit a DSP valve and the electric start switch/rectifier assembly.

You will notice there are two nubs cast in the bottom of the handle for the DSP valve but no holes. I just simply placed the DSP bracket on the nubs and used it as a template for the drill. I used a 7/64 drill for the pilot. Then I removed the bracket and enlarged them to 3/16 to fit the 10-24 mounting screws.

Here is the DSP lever assembly installed in the handle. Up next I'll show you how to drill all the extra holes for the starter switch.IMG_20140115_110524.jpgIMG_20140115_110532.jpg
