I started tearing down the 795 and everything looked great until I pulled the piston out. The bore is Ok but the ring lands are deformed and pinching the rings. There is also a nice gouge on the other side of the piston. I need a new piston and rings. I looked on ebay and they only had 0.030" oversize. Does anyone on here have a standard bore piston and rings?

Mc Culloch 1-51 gaskets
I’m still trying to decide if this saw is going to be a runner or a shelf queen. With the engine being stuck. It looks like it will need disassembled to locate the stuck problems. Does anyone have any experience with using the aftermarket gasket kits? Which ones are the preferred. I’m looking for a gasket set and seals for a Mc Culloch 1-51 if they are still available. Also are there any special tips or tricks used to save the original gaskets. Thanks any help would be great.:drinkingcoffee: :drinkingcoffee:

In the same boat with the 380, hopefully someone comes up with an answer for us. I could use some seal numbers for crank seals.

Personally I make all my own gaskets, as far as saving the ones on the saw I tend to use a razor blade as I pull the castings apart to peel up the gasket. The homemade gaskets aren't always as perfect as NOS ones but they are good enough.

The crank seals should be easy to find, if you know the dimensions Motion Industries has a good website and great customer service, they will find a modern equivalent if one exists.

What would you use to make the really thick intake/reed gaskets? I haven't found any gasket material thick enough. Or maybe it doesn't matter?

I haven't had to replace one of those yet, the one I have done came apart perfectly, all I did was add some gasket sealant to it and re-install it. I did notice on one of my mccullochs that there was a spacer there with normal gaskets on it. You could measure the thickness of the gasket, make a spacer out of aluminum plate then use thin gaskets on either side.

Mac Cat 003.JPG I have a real nice looking and running Power Mac 310 but the problem is it won't start after re-fueling from empty. I can prime it and it starts and runs fine but it won't start without priming. I was planning on selling the saw but doubt a buyer would put up with this. I have a new fuel line and pulse line on it and have cleaned and kitted the carb. The saw has about 150 compression.
Since this post I've checked the vent in the gas cap and it was okay then I changed the (new) felt fuel filter to a Stihl low resistant unit, it's basically just a screen. I'll see if that helps.

Looking for some rings for a non-Mac. Wondering if the rings for a PM-70 or any of the other "70" saws are thin rings (0.023") and are available. I do know the rings for a PM60 are thin. The ones for my saw are unobtanium. If they are thin and are available I'll file them down to fit my other saw (Poulan 4000). Thanks

Thanks for the info on the CP70 guys. My buddy might drop them off tomorrow. Once I get it, I'll post some pics.

I picked up this Power Mac 310 last fall at a garage sale for $1 with case. The guy said he bought it new, used it a couple times, then went to use it a few years later and it wouldn't start. Yep, never drained the gas. Anyway, I finally had time yesterday to get it running. Rebuilt the carb and removed the tar from the tank. The clutch cover had a crack through the stud hole, so I replaced it with an nos one. (thanks Jeff) I'm very impressed with this little limbing saw. Great anti vibe, adj. oiler, easy to get at carb mix screws, and great power.

Hi. I have a McCulloch 310. Could you help me identify / name the black plastic cover for the chain sprocket (below the chain oiler button) , shown in the photograph above? Thanks. GS

Hey guys,

I need a new chain for my recently acquired D-44. Currently has a 24" bar with skip. Do you recommend skip with that length of bar or should I get full comp?

Thanks much.

Anyone have any luck trying to cut a cork gasket for a Pro Mac 60? Ebay has them and that is probably much simpler.

Rather than try to cut the shape, I used some cork gasket material about .090" thick and just cut a straight line strip of the right width and length and used that. I sealed the end joint with a bit of Motoseal. Worked great.
Some guys have also bought some square profile "O" ring material from Harbor Freight and used that but I'm not sure how it worked out. It might work better than the cork.

I have decided to get a MAC 110 a friend gave me running again. Looking for a source for an MDC carb kit and an air filter. It has a coarse screen AF but it may have been flocked at one time.
The saw came apart pretty easily.
It's apart on my bench.
