I'm jumping into this kind of late, but what are the differences between a 610 and an Eager Beaver 3.7?
The Eager Beaver 3.7 was the 610 relabeled and sold through Home Depot right before McCulloch went belly up. There is no difference other than the sticker.

I do miss the days when you could walk in to a shop, either find what spikes you wanted or have them whip out a set for you.
Those don't look too hard to make with a plasma cutter and they certainly are intimidating. I'll have to try fabbing a set for my Husky 23 Compact one of these days when I'm bored.

I like the look of that chain brake equipped 10-10, I may have to find me one!

Just picked up a Pro mac 650 for $100. couldnt go wrong for the price and it came with a 24in b/c and a 20in b/c(except it was a stihl chain whcih fit my old faithful 034 super). so the bars were prolly worth the price

Better late than never: Got my SP81 working again with new(used) clutch rotor ($22 on Ebay), clutch bearing, sprocket and clean up. Here are a couple pics with a NOS 28" bar I got off Ebay:

Saw runs great still, just need a new oil tank cap and starter cord handle.
BTW Randy and his wife at Randys Small engine in Ohio(EBAY too) were VERY helpful getiing me the bearing and sprocket, very knowledge and knew part cross reference numbers to find my parts which appear to fit other Mac models. For around $16 bucks shipped I got both parts.

My lovely wife just hooked my up with a free "Eager Beaver". She was chit chatting with her chiropractor that I was now part of a "chainsaw cult" as she calls it and he said "I have an old Eager Beaver that won't start, he can have it". She is picking it up Monday!

Chainsaw Cult? I like it!!

i just inherited my grandfathers pro 10-10 auto from my dad as he has two huskys of his own now. it seemed to be a good performer growing up and still starts and runs, starts hard though. after i shut it off it aint starting for a while, that one is gonna confuse me for a bit unless one of you gurus has a bit of knowledge to share. gonna get a new chain for it today and put it on the active roster. my dad sharpened the other chain so far it scares me.lol i will post pics if i can get my camera working. cant wait to get the old girl cutting. thanks for any help.

My Jonsered 70E was doing this because it was flooding. A carb kit fixed the problem now it runs great. Maybe that's all you need...

my mccullochs

I know its late but here are my mccullochs. (3) pm10-10s, (1) pm6a, (1) 1-76, (2) pm 700, (2) bp-1s, (1) D-30, (1) mac 250, (1) S44A, and about (10) mm6, 110,120,130. All run except some of the mm6, 110,120,130. I would love to get my hands on the cp125, and sp105 my grandpa sold when he was selling macs.

My dad was an engineer for McCulloch until he was laid off in '76. He just happened to have a brand new SP81 at home he was working on when they laid him off, and somehow it didnt quite make it back to the company.
He passed in '87, its nice to have your old mans stuff after theyre gone.
I love the power but just bought a Husky rancher 455 for firewood chores, I needed something lighter and I didnt want to wear my dads saw out.
I think its time for a sprocket on the MC it want to spin the chain all the time even at idle, and the rim seems to have a lot of play in it. Any ideas where i can find a sprocket for this saw? i bought one off Ebay but its the wrong one, rim is too small. I will post a pic I just found this website and although it seems everyone is back east or in oregon the info here is great. Right now I cant get the nut off the sprocket its on there good.

That probably means your dad was a practicing engineer in the 50's which in my opinion was the height of USA engineering. Wish I was older and part of that crowd. One of my fellow engineers at work is from that era, hands down the best engineer I have met. They KNOW there stuff...

just letting you all know the mac owners know i am going down on the prices on the mac parts on my store i sold out of the 10-10 air filters i had i still have the newer style ones the mac parts will be reduced between $ 0.99 - 5.00 on the parts so no more than 5.00 on a part

just letting you know

calvin

this will be monday before i get to doing this

anyone looking for a low compression 200 runner with a 32" bar and 404 chain ? I would like a trim saw for swap

My latest Super Pro

I posted these in the Chain Saw Photos thread but thought I would put them here as well.

McCulloch SP40, this saw has quite a bark but I need to find a smaller high speed jet or swap out the carburetor as it is far too rich on the high side (fixed jet).

Just getting into this over the past few months I have a had the same thought. Seems to me that there are only a few basic tillotson or walbro carb series and that a guy should be able to put a better carb on stubborn designs like my Pioneer 1073 that only has one needle valve. Seems like both companies basically modified a few basic designs to accomodate throttle and choke positions for whatever company was buying them...

Looking for Parts IPLS

Hi all, new to AS & trying to repair a McCulloch. It is an Eager Beaver 3.4ci, Model 60013416, Serial 11-026635. I've had it since it was new, and have never had an issue before now.

The main problem with the saw is that it the thin metal plates that go on either side of the bar where it bolts to the power head are nearly destroyed. This happened when clearing out a fence row. I thought I had cleared all the barbed wire out, but was wrong. A piece broke off, derailed the chain, and chew up the chain and these plates pretty good.

Can anyone tell me what these plates are called and where to get them? Will parts for a 610 (AKA Eager Beaver 3.7) work? I've done a good bit of searching, and can not seem to find this exact model saw on any of the parts sites. It is also time to change the sprocket (since I have it tore down), and air filter. Any help will be much appreciated.

Derek

Eager Beaver 3.4?

Thanks HimWill. That part site is helpful. I've looked through all the models, and where I can find listings for an Eager Beaver 3.7, I can not find a 3.4. Any idea if the bar plates and sprocket for a 3.7 are compatible? If the displacement is the only differnece between those two saws, then I would assume so, but we all know where assumptions can get you.....

Back in the late 50's and early 60's he was an enginner for Pioneer up in Canada, I remember him telling me he visited one of the logging camps up there he never saw anyone eat as much as those loggers, some of them a dozen eggs for breakfast plus toast bacon and coffee!
I have his Pioneer chainsaw tie clip thats all left from those days....

Yeah, my brother in-law played football for UMD (duluth) and I have never seen anybody eat like those guys. they were so super fit that they never stopped eating and had amazing stamina. We once hauled wood when he was in college and he was throwing 5-6 foot long oak logs on the trailer by hand and didn't slow down for 3 hours. alot to be said for training. I suspect those loggers were in the same condiition. I wish I could have met your dad.

Thanks, I miss him he died in '87.

Wanted to pass on another good word about Randys small engine repair. I ordered and got some stuff for my SP81 the other day, a starter handle, sprocket, oil cap, another loop of chain for the 28" bar and they accidentally sent a 7 pin sprocket instead of the clutch drum I needed. I called today and told Randy's wife about it, and that I would keep the sprocket as I could use another one anyways, she found the right clutch rim and is sending my the whole kit including bearing and sprocket out for free!
Great people and service. If you have an old part number they will figure out what the new part number is and send it. I got a NOS spike for $15 in the bag, I bid on (and let go) one on Ebay the other day that went for $40!
