As Mark stated, they are a very nice and desireable saw.
If you plan on a restoration keep us up dated with pic's.
Parts can be an issue but there are a few other models that share the same basic parts. An IPL should be easy to get. I see paper versions on ebay all the time. But if Mark can send you one i would go that route.
I would also be interested in the saw if you ever decide to sell and Mark turns it down.
Good luck on your project.

There is no govenor on these saws.
They have the Mac Flatback carb.
With the primer. Sounds like the
carb or ignition trouble.
I would start by cleaning and regaping
the points. If that doesn't help then
pull the carb, give a good cleaning and
buy a kit from Bob's lownmower in NY.
He has them. If you need his contact info
let me know.

The saw has good compression and fire and is complete. Haven't tried to start it but if it starts I would like to restore it back to original.
I take it the parts are going to be and issue.
But will keep you in mind if I get tired of messin with it.

casey i may have something here but cannot guarantee i do since this is one of the older macs that were built i do know bob should have parts he has them for the carbs

any of the parts that begin with a 5 i dont have but i have a few that start with a number 6 and so on

I have a super 797 and a 797 with a 101B kart motor. The super 797 is my favorite stock Mac. It will run circles around my 3 125's (one of which has so much comp you can pick it up by the starter handle and carry it around for about 15 seconds before the first drop). Also I got the first of the two 890's I won on ebay. It was advertised as a 895 but as it has no decomp it must be an 890. Anyway I swapped on a .404 gear and a 42" sprocket nose bar and full chisel skip chain. It runs great and is a beast, very fast for a gear drive. It must have the tall gear ratio I have heard Mark talk about. Anyway I like it. Also got a 550 good shap runs on prime just needs a carb kit. Also took delivery today of a 790 I won on ebay about 3 weeks ago. It was advertised as a parts saw and is missing the clutch side starter but is otherwise complete and has........175psi comp! Haven't tried to run on prime yet, but since I need a carb kit for the second 890 I will just go ahead order two. I will make a video of the 890 I already have and post it as soon as I can. So I guess you can add 2 890's, a 790 and a 550 to my list of Macs. Any help with a clutch side starter for the 790 would be great too.

So you need the whole starter assembly
with clutch cover, As they were right hand start?

Isn't that a dandy, makes that 1-10 look like a puppy. You really will be a "Husky Varmit" after you wrestle that around for a few tanks of gas.

Thankee kindly.

I really like my super 797. Its a fun saw to run, mine sounds like the compression release is leaky but it could be rings.

The cyclinder and jug look good but comp is not what it could be.

Does anyone have rings for one?

Does anyone know have the correct manual and IPL for an Eager Beaver with the following numbers on the handle? I need to rip it apart and check for points or no points but I would like the manual and IPL for reference as I do it.

Thanks Hoss, one of my favorite chainsaws. I felled lots of trees with it, from east slope Sierra pine and cedars to second growth Redwoods. The spikes are off a CP125, they worked well with the loose bark of the Redweeds.

Yup, i'm gonna set my 550 up almost the same exact way as your super 250. I'm gonna use a 28" sprocket tip bar in 3/8ths with an 8 pin rim. and I even have an extra after market 125 spike like yours that I was planning on using. Love the way these saws pull in the cut. Did you drill those holes in the top cover (stock carb?)?

From what I understand from people who know lots more than I do about design, the Super 250 is about a half step behind a Kart motor. The Supers are definately far more powerfull than the standard 250s, the extra 7cc are only alittle bit of that. The 550s are 99cc, the Super 550s are 103cc and again the porting, compression are similar to the Super 250s. I haven't cut with a PM80/81, I do have several hundred hours with the PM850. We have the old reed valve vs piston port thing, longer bars, bigger wood goes to the reed valve, the higher chain speed of the piston ported 80/81/850 works better with bars shorter than 36". I did run a 36" on the PM850, it worked very well, and it didn't see anything but clean, green conifers.
I do know that the Super 250 and the PM850 will out cut a 045 by quite a margin and have little trouble with 050/51s. Before the uncontrolled nerve spasms from the creamsickle crew start, yes, I have owned and put a fair amount of time on all of them.
