I had to load logs and then go back for the tractor. Made three trips so far.
Real nice.
Just checking on the MACs as a certain fuel injected saw keeps calling my name and with the latest eBay MAC prices I believe I could fund one.

Wow. A lot going on here that I've missed over the past few days. I quit getting notifications for some reason and was left in the dust back around page 1537. Just figured the cold was getting to everyone when low and behold there was even an oil thread sidebar happening right here under my nose that I completely missed. Damn. I definitely have some catching up to do.
I did manage to find some time for my SP81 ignition issue and believe it was just a poor approach to setting the points that had everything out of whack. I'm currently pretty zeroed in at .015 and now have some real top end where before it was barely sniffing 8k and the 'H' screw did very little in either direction. Starting at a hair over 1 turn out I did have to turn it back in a half turn to make it happy (which doesn't seem normal for an SDC). 'L' is happy at 3/4. Thoughts on these settings anyone?
I also found the instructions for making the application solution for my Sugar Creek decal and hope to tackle that this evening. Now if I could only find a small length of 1" radiator hose to roll out the the air bubbles...LOL

If it runs good leave it alone and have fun. I had a small air leak on a 800 once. Similar symptoms, as adjustments didnt seem to make as big a difference as they should have. No hole in the boot but where it mated to the air box was not sealing. Remedied that with some silicone on the mating surface. Let it cure over night. Then tightened it up all the way. Reassembled everything and bingo. That little air leak had it all outa adjustment. I had to readjust both settings. Much easier though. Im curious what sdc is on your sp81? Ive got the stock sdc 51 on one while on my other 81 saw ive got an sdc 44a on it. The 44a really makes it run well as does the nova chip.

So, i bought some nos oregon .404 chain. Micro chipper chain actually. I want to put it to use. So i went to the stihl dealer today to find a bar. The newer employee kinda sarcastically said thats an oooldie goldie saw. I wasnt offended because i know what i got in my hand. (Sp81). He said slowly and unsure of himself that he didnt know anything about that saw. I said i know. Lol. Anyway, a long time employee showed up and asked what i needed this time for my old saws and what did i bring into him. He was impressed with it. Helped me right away and ill be running my .404 chain next week. I like ol guys who appreciate good saws. Story of the day for me.

I'll check the carb. Not the original which was a fixed jet. The saw is still essentially a brand new rebuild and has only been started a handful of times due to the ignition issue and getting shelved until I was able to get back to it. Noted on your air leak. Thx for the tip.

I remember back a few yrs.ago I took my Timberbear to my local saw shop for some work to be done on it.One of the employees there was very downright nasty & asked me why I was bringing my junk there.They were primarily Stihl dealers at the time & now he's a Husky dealer too.Needless to say,after my saw was repaired I brought in a small Jonsered 361 to be worked on.I got the same response from the same guy,but this time I told him to ask his boss why he sold that piece of junk to me in the first place.Unbeknown to the arrogant employee,the owner started out as a Jonsered & Olympik dealer.Needless to say,I stopped going there for"service" on my saws for close to ten yrs.Now I work on my own saws & I just started going back to that guy last yr.,but only to buy old Macs that he doesn't want.Oh,& the arrogant employee that he had working for him back then isn't there anymore.I'll have to ask next time I'm there what happened to him.

I did get one vid today. This was the next saw in the rotation to be used and blow out the cob webs and it still seems to be tuned great. It may be a little rich as it requires a heavy hand to get it to clean up. I’m good with that.
Nice to have the torque to be able to push when needed. Ron
