I dont care for stihl chainsaws much but i had an 084 that i tore down for crank seals and painted it black and yellow. Everyone loved it. It was a damn good saw and i always said its not a stihl....its just my saw.

yes sir it is and rebuilt the engine while i was at it..chipped paints adds character i think

I have a lombard that had no paint left at all unless you removed a cover to find out it was red....i cleaned it with steel wool and clear coated it...it looks great. Almost like chrome. Its nice to have something unique.... fix it up with love and run it like you stole it.
I was lent an old 10-10a by my farmer neighbor, I got the saw running right again and" redid " the old mac in Mad Max theme , the brake flag was busted off so I put a flat piece of 1/4 " aluminum on it and a chrome skull and crossbones emblem then painted the saw gloss and flat black , put bubble letters on the front of the tank that read "Witness Me!"
I like custom stuff ,unless the object is mint and rare then I treat it more for reference and function.
I don't get alot off mint stuff in my budget though.

Go and cut another slice off with the 800 and see it looks like a bit of rot has set in at the bottom.
I can't believe mac happily put a saw out that is that massive amount slower than the model it replaced surely not I mean I get there is a bit in it and the noise but that's a huge difference. No1 here says that much of a difference.
I got an 800 for sale otherwise lol cash that in and buy a green saw or worse a orange 1 hehehe I can here the 800s bum pucker from out in the shed from here lol
Oh and Kevin I like your white 700 if it was stihl colour then probably not. Although that would be funny
Cant tell any difference in performance between my PM800 & PM850,never used a watch or timed anything.But it was same chain,bar & same wood.My SP80 & SP81 need some minor TLC to be runners but I imagine once they're right it should be pretty much the same.

Hey we both know one saw to another its life has been different. One saw doesnt speak for every 800 and 850. We both know i dont have my 800 dialed in all the way because of the quiet muffler. I am sure it will be a lot closer dialed in. Just from how dead perfect i dialed that 850 in, its a big difference.

I like my pm800. It cuts nice with that bar buried. Its just not dialed in, im still tinkering. The 850 is just easier to dial in with that loud exhaust. One of the things i love about old loud macs, they are one of the easiest saws to dial in.

If you bury a 32" bar on the 800 and then the 850, you should see a pretty big difference. A 28" or smaller may not show the difference as dramatically.

Im running a 28 fullhouse and leaning on it,with a dialed in 850 vs an 800 that isnt quite there yet so it was very noticable. I doubt it will be, once the 800 is perfect.

I'm sure the 850/80/81s have got a bit more snot than the q port saws. I have a very very open muffler and it seems to pull a 32 real nice once its loaded up good can really lean on it and it pulls away happily. If wearing only plugs or muffs it will ring the right ear so I wear both if running it lots

I dropped this guy and 2 others with my faithful 1-40 yesterday. I was inspired by blind squirrel and hauled out the Mac for a change, and learned that it needs a carb rebuild to be 100%. It worked pretty dang well though, all things considered.
P.S. My dad came out while I was cutting and just started laughing once he saw what I was using. He used a 10-10 till he got fed up with it's breaking and bought an 026. The 10-10 was given to an uncle, and with luck I'll get it back. The 10-10 was bought new by my grandpa, so it's a sentimental saw for me and my family.
Hopefully you get that 10-10 probably one of the most reliable saws available with proper maintenance, it's funny but newer wil always equal better for most people.
If we really want to save our planet restoration is the only way , cars, saws,ect...
There was a blue model McCulloch made in 10 series listed on a reference site but I can't remember the model.
With saws there definitely seems to be a Chevy vs ford mentality, I don't have too much brand loyalty all I know is what has given me fits and whats worked well , so far McCulloch is at the top of my list .
I've been quick to judge certain saws in the past but most of that has changed with experience, except for anything with a computer in it , I will never sacrifice freedom from a screwdriver for convenience.
