I know with dirt bike chains what we refer to as chain stretch is really wear on all the pins and plates, elongating the chain. not much if any actual metal stretch. suspect it's the same on chainsaw chains.

Thanks for the support folks! I already have too many "interests".

I found a piece of 3/4" heater hose and tried wrestling it onto the handle. After getting quite frustrated I came up with: wrap aluminum handle with hockey tape, slice the hose open down the length, wrap heater hose with hockey tape. It's not really cushy, but it certainly fits in the hand better.

I have a new fuel line. The old one was visibly leaking. I went ahead and ordered a new fuel tank gasket too. Still waiting on parts...

Several yrs ago i got a peice of hose from a kiwi and used an air compressor to get it on the handle. Took 10 minutes. First i tried to wrestle it and made short headway....air nozzle worked like a champ.

I recovered a 288 wrap with some Stihl tubing and it took lots of soap, lots of heat, and a variety of different words to get it on. I'm sure I did it wrong, but no amount of air helped.

So the 440 I received has great compression and I fixed the recoil spring.
For the life of me I can't get the dog gone fuel cap off! I was able to pick the o ring out from it and its soaking in penetrating fuild now.
Channellocks. Sounds harsh, but they've yet to let me down and they won't really bugger the cap up.

My guess would be heat gun all around it, gently of course, and a light dead blow. Lots of patience. Light taps with the hammer. Perhaps a large screw driver on those edges and a hammer in the counter clockwise rotation. If all else fails get ya a used one for a 200,250,300 or 790 etc or 125.

I was going to suggest a heat gun too,but you beat me to it.

I'm also shuddering to think what the inside of that tank is going to look like.Of course being sealed up that tight might be a plus - keeping any moisture out.It seems to me that I had a D44 a couple yrs.ago that had a stuck cap,& if I remember correctly I used a channellock to get it off..

I got the PM55 out today & was going to put the carb on it & give her a try,but I noticed the manual oil plunger is hanging up (binding). It pumps oil,but stays stuck in the in position.I have to pull it out manually.I tried putting lube on the oiler button to no avail. It worked fine before I put the fuel tank on.Ideas?

Rod might be twisted? I have pulled them out without removing the tank through the button hole.
You can remove the recoil cover and put a flashlight on it to see whats up.

Heat guns and fuel tanks make me a tad nervous.
I have put a set of 2 foot channel locks on it with a peice of belt material in between the jaws , no dice ,actually sheds the belt material! I'll give it a day to soak then get it off , whether through force or finesse.
