I usually test for oiling by revving the saw about half throttle while pointing the bar tip at a smooth surface like the cut end of a log or a piece of cardboard. Within a few seconds a line of flung oil appears which tells me the system is working. I also find that after burning a tank of fuel, the oil tank should be at least 3/4 empty but the bar oil should never run out before the fuel. Adjust accordingly.
:greenchainsaw:

This pretty much exactly how I do it. Thanks for the confirmation.

Usually the numbers tell you what model saw they fit as mentioned earlier. That being said McCulloch had those blocks built for the specs of the 71 direct drive and the 81 gear drive. If a direct drive model and a gear drive model had the same block they stamped both model numbers into it.

In a lot of the macs when you find two model numbers. They would
stamp a line over one of the numbers. This means its not that model.
So if you look real close you may see a real light line over the 81.

Hello Mac Men
I have cleaned the gunk off the bottom of the crankcase and found these numbers on one side 1-71 and on the other side C2480.So could you fellas please fill me in 81

Thanks
Lawrence

P.S. Mark what are those two machines behind you picture of the Mac bow saw? One is on your bench and looks like some type of canning device. The other machine has the chains draped over it.
Thanks
Lawrence

Lawrence, you will like the 1-71, I have one and it really screams. On the work bench is a 3 T arbor press that I use for pressing bearings, seals, etc. The thing on the floor is a jaw crusher, used to break rocks, concrete, etc. Obviously that is a small one but will take fist sized stones and reduce them to 3/4" minus.

I just snagged a super 55A gear drive with a .404 gear and a 36" roller nose bar (the perfect setup imho). I just want to make sure with some of you mac minded individuals about something. The mac 55 is 72cc, the super 55 is 80cc and the super 55A is 87cc right? The saw appeared to cut well in the sellers video and I am exited to see how it stacks up against my 890's and homie xp1100G.

The 55 is just a D-44 with a gear box, yes 72 cc. 55A is a 44A (80 cc) and the Super 44A /Super 55A is 87 cc. I have all three model 44's, a nice running 55 with 9/16" pitch chain, and a 55A that has been converted to direct drive.

Here's one you don't see every day.
60 cm bar, full wrap (which is very uncommon in Belgium) I got her running today ; what a beast :chainsawguy:

Very nice Roland, I am yellow with envy...

All of the Super 250's and Super 550's I have seen have the full wrap bars. Both of my 550's have the full wrap as well.

Here are the pics of the new saw...

The flywheel side cover was missing, so we are going to go back and look for it.

So I think it is either a 49 or a 77, what do you think.

calvin

Can you find any serial numbers on the saw. Yeah Its a 49 or 77.
Maybe the lower part of the rear handle like the 47s

Yes, 49 or 77.

Mark

Ok the number on the left side (while holding saw in user position) on the lower handle is 49 (. or just a space) 518

I thought the number would have been under the saw or by the gas tank opening as with some other Mac's.

The saw runs very good, and loud!

Thanks

Mac chain ID

I am trying to determine what 3 Mac chains are with just the Mac part number. The chains are not in my possesion nor do I have a picture of them.

Pitch, guage, & cutter type is what I am after.

89527N CL84
64956N CL53
No part #on chain 3, just "S80" on the drive links & CL49

Thank you.

Looks like it would be model 49 and serial #518.

The Old mac guy has one, I think he would know for sure.

I got my 1-72 running. Had to change the fuel tank. The other one
had a nice big hole in it. Changed and fixed a few other parts on it too.

Yup. You guys pegged it, when you finally looked at the casting numbers on the lower left pistol grip.

They're not common, signoflife. Congratulations to you and your Dad!!
Hope you find the missing fan shroud. Don't run it much until you do... wouldn't want to overheat...

btw, I bought that saw which you first referred to when you started the 1-73, 49, 77 subject... Mac didn't make a 1-73, nor 1-74... but did make a 1-75 and 1-76.

OMG

OMG

Off the subject but did you pick Old Mac Guy so you could use OMG meaning something that isn't an outright violation of a commandment? Kids these days make me crazy with the OMG thing...:chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw:

I flatly reject your implied criticism.
Take your little red chainsaws and listen to a Johnny Paycheck song.

Apology to Old Mac Guy

I actually was implying kudoos for trying to change the meaning of OMG and curious if it was indeed intentional. Teenagers these days use OMG on text message and the phrase "Oh My God" so much it makes me want to puke. Now when I see OMG on AS I know it means you and not the bad phrase and I was trying to say "good job" to you.

I apologize.
