I just snagged a super 55A gear drive with a .404 gear and a 36" roller nose bar (the perfect setup imho). I just want to make sure with some of you mac minded individuals about something. The mac 55 is 72cc, the super 55 is 80cc and the super 55A is 87cc right? The saw appeared to cut well in the sellers video and I am exited to see how it stacks up against my 890's and homie xp1100G.

Some numbers

Hello Mac Men
I have cleaned the gunk off the bottom of the crankcase and found these numbers on one side 1-71 and on the other side C2480.So could you fellas please fill me in 81

Thanks
Lawrence

P.S. Mark what are those two machines behind you picture of the Mac bow saw? One is on your bench and looks like some type of canning device. The other machine has the chains draped over it.
Thanks
Lawrence

Urbicide,Why does it have a number 81 directly under the 71?
Thanks
Lawrence

P.S. Also the 1-71 on Mikes site mentions a black air filter cover for the 1-71.Mine is all yellow, and does not appear to have been painted over.

Lawerence, I am assuming  that the same crankcase was used on either saw, with the only difference being direct or gear drive.

As far as colors go, I think that the all yellow saws were an older/earlier color sceme. I have an early 250 that is all yellow. Later models of the 250 had black air filter covers, etc.

Help with identification

Can anyone let help me out with identifying this saw...

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200379553109&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

...is it really a 1-73?

I looked this am on the Acresinternet site (now that it is back up, thanks Mike) but he doesn't list a 1-73 and I haven't been successful anywhere else finding this model, nor can I find another model # that pictures match the saw.

The seller wrote that it was from the 60's, however I was thought this model looked to be from the 50's.

My interest is due to my father recently buying one locally that looks to be the exact same model.

Thanks

Edit: I think this is it - http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.n...cc8b552db386a14a88256b00005c9c2c?OpenDocument

What do you think, not a 1-73 but a 49 from mid 50's? I will try to get my old man to send me some photo's of it and I will post them.

Now I have a to see pictures from the old man, because the model 73 (no 1- ) looks alot alike, but the top cover config is different, as well as the cc's inside. Looks like a beast of a unit, either way.

Model # 73 - http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.n...ceba53544c8dbc9c88256b00005d7a7f?OpenDocument

or even

Model #77 (which looks more like the 49) - http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.n...cb3b40e755cf9b1688256b00005e17c0?OpenDocument

Would there be a model number cast on the saw somewhere as the paint / decal on the top has been wore off.

Turtle and Urbicide, Thanks for the information. That would make sense alright, and didn't one of the other AS members mention a lot of inter change ability amongst those saws?
Thanks

Usually the numbers tell you what model saw they fit as mentioned earlier. That being said McCulloch had those blocks built for the specs of the 71 direct drive and the 81 gear drive. If a direct drive model and a gear drive model had the same block they stamped both model numbers into it.

PM 650 oiler

Can the auto-oiler be adjusted on a PM 650? When I use the manual button I can make oil fling off the chain with just a few pushes but not much if any appears to be coming out unless I push that...

Yes, there is a screw that is inserted vertically in the top of the oiler, which is mounted in front of the air chamber. I've never adjusted one before, my guess is turn out for more oil, I think a small adjustment goes a long way too.

So how is that PM650 running now?

It runs well. It had been sitting around for 5 or so years with the broken rewind. I got a rewind for it and it started almost right away with new mix and a little in the spark plug hole. After I had it all apart to repair the bar bolt I just put gas in (new plug too). Fired on pull 2 and started on pull 4.

all they are is money greedy bunch of hoodlimms God forgive me but im one Ticked off person

wish march of 2009 would repeat itself twice

had a customer call me this morning saytin i did not sound good over the phone strange how people can tell im hurting inside

sometimes i wish i could go home to be with my lord then i would not have to worry about these stinking big companies

I usually test for oiling by revving the saw about half throttle while pointing the bar tip at a smooth surface like the cut end of a log or a piece of cardboard. Within a few seconds a line of flung oil appears which tells me the system is working. I also find that after burning a tank of fuel, the oil tank should be at least 3/4 empty but the bar oil should never run out before the fuel. Adjust accordingly.
