I just bought a monster bar and chain off of Saw-King on Ebay, but you can't have it.... lol.

You STOLE that bar, as has been stated already!

Mac 1-70 from Randy, it's a runner. Pretty darn nice shape, pulls that bar well.

A 380, it's clean, great compression and spark. Needs a carb kit, definitly a runner in time.

7-10A from Jon, runner. The saw was well used, but still runs nice.

What do we have here? It's a Super 550! Runs excellent. Thanks Chris

Thanks to all the guys for hooking me up with these.

Chris

Damn Chris, you are on fire. And I thought I was doing well with the 650 and 200 I got from a local CL seller on Thursday.

That 380 is basically the same saw as the 300 we were talking about earlier. According to the 1965 Service Manual supplement, the 300 replaced the 380 as their less expensive 87cc saw. If the Acres listing for the 380 sez 80cc, then don't believe it.:D

Thieroff just posted his new S550 which I traded to him for this 650 gear drive. I finished converting this over to a HL with a locking choke. For a gear drive, this saw is no slowpoke. I'm expecting a batch of roller nose bars along with a total of 60' of 1/2" full chisel Oregon #10. Should be a 28" General in there that will find a home on this saw. I've wanted one of these for quite some time and I can see what all the fuss is about.

Congratuations to the "Chris Twins" on their trade!

I just scored a McCulloch 650 that I would have traded for a Super 550. I am damn happy to get it however. I'll get some pics of it up soon. Has good compression and pops on a prime. Probably going to swap out the primer flatback for a Tilly HL.

It looks like the just-traded saw, except the bar's about 2" longer (mine's a 26" and the pictured one looks like a 24" to me), the PO broke out part of the starter screen for some reason (easier access to lube the starter pawl pins maybe), the starter housing is black, and it's missing the spikes. Doesn't look like it ever had spikes mounted, as the mounting screw and nut holes have intact paint in 'em (and the paint on the front of the flange is pretty worn from contact with the wood). It's missing the AF cover decal and model/serial number tag. It has "650" stamped under a lined-out "300" on the block.

Haven't checked the gearbox to see if it's 2/1 or 3/1 yet. IIRC, the "Chris 650" has a 2/1 box. That'd explain why it's pretty speedy for a gear drive. It'd make a good racer in the gear drive class. I don't think I'd bet on it if Bill or Lee are running one of their 2/1 ratio 7+ ci gear drives though...:D

How do you know when it is time to take a little break from Chainsaws and AS?

I say it is when you are trying to decide when MAC to build first and you find yourself about to put a 5 gallon can of gasoline in the refrigerator. :msp_unsure: I going to take a nap now. Ron

The shop has a PM850 that they may sell to me. Straight gassed, otherwise nice. What would you guys consider a fair price to be? Should also mention that it has a 32" rollernose with a decent chain. They usually take what ever I offer, but I do want to be fair to them, they are very good to me, as well as people whom I consider good friends.

Thanks - Sam

Aaron,

I've really been on a tear recently. It's actually disgusting!

I've been pretty much taking advantage of every Mac I've come across. Including the ones I have in the works I've acquired somewhere around a dozen since Easter. There's a couple I have that aren't even listed in my sig. It's bad Aaron, really bad!

I'm having a ton of fun though, and really learning a lot of saws in general.

I'm happy to hear about your recent hauls, every man needs more than a "few" large frame Macs. Hopefully you are able to find the time to make some progress on them in the future.

Chris was a really good guy to deal with, and a man of his word. Always good to find another fella out there like that.

Hey Sam!!!

P&Cs are a bit tough to come by, but that bar would be worth trying for, maybe $50.

Well, for those of you who have been helping me get parts, engines, and saws here are some pics of what I have been doing instead. I tore out a wall, installed the header, some new sheetrock, wired the area, and installed lights, a workbench, a sink. It turned out pretty good.

Part of the deal was finding a tool chest. I found a used 5 drawer 3’x4’ blueprint cabinet. Awesome tool chest it turns out.

Here are two of my first hitters. The 10-10 should be fine, and I had to buy parts to put the brake back on it. the 3400 has a nice bow bar on it, though the bar is most likely too much for the saw.

Unfortunately, here is the rest of the project. If you look closely you will find a pieced out 640, a donor 640 (Thank MBS), and a purple box that contains a D36 (thanks Th..). There are other parts in there both bought and donated from great folks here. Way in the background there sits the Magnum that belongs in the garage.

Depends on the over all condition.
If it's really clean, I would go 100 bucks
50 if it's on the ruff side.

Take what your offer to them would be, and add 20-50 bucks, depending on your mood and how much PBR you consumed the night before, and how good of friends these friends are to you.

Just what I would do. I have no clue what a scored 850 with a roller nose is worth... I know a runner 850 can bring something over 500 bucks on feebay, and a roller nose bar can bring some good money too.

Sam, it depends on how much you are willing to put into making it a runner. It seems that the prices for every saw I like (including the PM850) have gone out the roof since last fall. If this saw has all the cast pieces in good shape and you are willing to gamble on the cylinder and piston, you might want to go as high as $100; you can easily spend $75.00 on a NOS recoil cover and chain brake. Nice tanks are hard to come by. AF covers seem to be fairly available. I don't know what a small mount roller nose bar is worth but probably $50+ to someone who really wants one... NOS sprocket nose bars can still be found. Piston will run you around $60; "A"s seem to be the scarcest and "B"s the most plentiful. Cylinders are around but you really have to hunt for them (expect to pay $100 to 150). If you are only buying it to speculate on resale of parts, I wouldn't pay over $50.

Ron

Thanks guys, I figured on $100 tops. Nice saw, and sometimes I just can't help myself when I see large yellow things. I'll know a bit more next Saturday - Sam

O.K. wich one of you low lifes snagged the lightly used Mac 250 with the almost new 42" bar and chain for $150 from the Jackson Michigan C.L.

I have some big freakin trees to chop up and I sure could use that thing. You want to stop by my place and play with it....:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

I wish it was me, but I was approximately 16 hours too slow...

Speaking of the Jackson, MI CL ....

Have you ever talked to a guy named Rob in Parma that has over 150 runners ... ?

he probably has a lot of very cool saws...I need to resist....
But I do go past his place every couple of weeks...perhaps I need to stop and look...

Hey everybody!!! We need to support him in his crusades for more yellow saws!!!

DO IT!!! DO IT!! DO IT!!! :blob2::rock::popcorn:

Don't do it, lol. Too many projects at once is nothing but trouble. Only exceptions are for things that come with a 123cc heart........or a bit less that are gear driven - Sam
