Does anyone have a chart or website that would tell me what carb kit numbers mac goes by? I bought a bunch on mac parts and there are about 40 carb kits and I don't have a clue as to what they fit.

#67357 is for the flatback small 10 series., #65608 for the big flatback 10 series. I can use some IF you also have several 63041 primer valves.

Also looking for 66681 bracket, and 84078 carb spacers, and gaskets 68131, and 68132 (bunches of those!)

Name that SAW!

We got this one without the cover, what do you think it is?

I was thinking a 1-7? or a 740 or 79? series.

coil for 1010s, 650 0r 700

i need a coil for a 1010s, 650 or 700 or any other than caries the same coil. when mine gets hot it quits. wen it cools down it runs gtood. any cure for coils trhat go bad.

I read somewhere that you can take the coil/module off a Ryobi trimmer and put it on your armature. Other coils (Poulan etc.) might work as well. Secure it with some JB Weld and you will have a new coil with electronic ignition. So go find a broken line trimmer, pull the coil, give it a try and let us know what happens!

If you have McBob's CD, there should be several saws included with the McCulloch carb IPL, I know the 2-10 IPL shows it. Check your e-mail, I will try to send you one.

I have a 10 Series service manual with the full description of the carburetor including illustrations and settings. Don't know that I can manage before I leave this week but I will try to copy those pages and send them to you. Basically the high speed mixture setting is controlled by the position of the throttle butterfly as well as the mix screw. The idle speed adjustment is pretty straight forward, move the screw to close the butterfly. High speed mix is more involved, moving the high speed mix screw allow the butterfly to open or close (about 7° either way of horizontal) to control the position of the mix screw.

In reality, it is a pretty simple carburetor but the tiny duck bill valve for the primer is normally shot and they are very difficult to find. Bob Johnson does have some NOS diaphragms available as well as other bit like the balls & seats for the extra check valves in later models, and the air and fuel orifices, probably other parts as well.

Good info Mark... my 640 has a Mac flatback carb with the duckbill... which of course needs to be rebuilt.

Just out of curiosity... will the HL off of a 125 or a 797 work in its place? just thinkin' out loud...

Gary

thanks for the info Mark.
I have very little experience with these carbs, so I will check them out. I am not looking forward to finding replacements parts for them, if they are not easy to find. Both saws were difficult starters according to the previous owner.

Gary- There's a Tillotson carb with a low-profile fuel inlet that will work on your 640, and I just happen to have a few. I'll send you one.

thanks for the info Mark.

Roland- yah those are the "bullfrog" style carbs according to McBob...I have some diaphragms you can have, I may also have the duckbill but I'd need to see one first...

Gary - for the big saws the Tillotson HL will bolt in on almost every saw. If you look around you can probably find a 640 that had a Tillotson so you can even have original controls. As you can see below, I have a pair of 660's that recently arrived, one is equipped with the McCulloch carburetor and one with the Tillotson. I have been sucessful in getting the seat for the primer check valve from Bob Johnson in the past, makes a few of the saws work like normal. For the others, I just prime the saw(s) manually to start them and they work fine after that.

Roland - with the pages I hop to send you will have a much better picture of how the single needle carburetor is supposed to work. I think it would be possible to simply plug the port for the duck bill valve (10 Series primer circuit) and prime it manually to start, the saw should still run normally and repsond to the standard adjustment procedure. If you are interested and get back to me today, I may be able to find a new diaphram set to include in the box heading your way.

JJ - it is very small, much smaller than the ones used in the fuel cap or kart style carburetors. I would guess around .080-.100" diameter or something like that (I haven't look at one for a few days and never thought to measure one up).

If you had a couple of spare diaphragms for the 10 Series carburetors I would be interested in one or two as well. I think I have one NOS at home right now that I can send to Roland since I have a box going his way soon anyway.

Holy cats Jacob... thanks mang.

Now that I'm all moved in to my new digs, and I have my garage/shop all figured out... the winter projects are the 640 and the 797... :)

Yo Gary!!! How is the lad today?

Ye old Bullfrog carbs, odd little things, I am blessed with a pair of 10s with them. I am down to my last kit, but there is hope for the diaphrams, I'm sending a carb to Joe in MO who will reproduce diaphrams. Primers will still be a problem, I manual prime with an old gooseneck oil can.
