3-25 info requested

Hello. Do any of you Mac fiends have an IPL, service manual, and/or an owner's manual for the 3-25 (late version)? I called Bob Johnson and he started laughing, kind of like he did when I was talking to him about a 35 Mac a while back. Definetely needs a starter pulley & new recoil spring, then we will see from there
Thank you.

NOW, a Mcneewbie question for the Mcflatback wizards,,

yesterday I fired a couple others. A clean 740 that needs a fuel line and primer..

and this 795 that seems to run good and the primer even works but I get a big puddle of gas under the carb.. Does this sound like carb gaskets will fix it?

My 640 does the same thing... when I took the flatback apart the screws holding the diaphram cover on were only finger tight and the gaskets were shrunk... I put a new fuel line on it so I know it wasn't that.

A new gasket and diaphram kit for that carb is gonna run close to 50 bucks.

Just noticed this thread. I'm looking for a 7-10 to duplicate my very first saw. I have a 250 I got for free that runs pretty good and my FIL has an ancient Mac that I have to pick up someday. I like the old Macs and Pioneers, never got the bug for Homelite. I do know of some scrap yards that have pile of old saws, I just have to remember to stop by someday.

thanks Gary, maybe I will get lucky and find one to fit it in my junk pile. At least they can be found if I need one. Too bad we dont have a pictorial like that HL build for the flatbacks :)

I have the Flatback completely disassembled on my work bench. :) If the kit wasn't so expensive, I would prolly do one. I might just spring the cash later on for a rebuild of the Flatback. But in all the reseach I've done on these saws that were run out west. Most of the Flatbacks were tossed in favor of the big HL's. :)

So... I plan on putting an HL in the 640.

My 797 is a prime example. IPL shows a Flatback, and the saw has a big ol' HL in it.

Holy cats sawbones... you're in Skykomish? I live on Whidbey Island. :)

he sold macs in the 60's and 70's. left his 125C and a 1225 at the local museum here too.

Let us know how that HL conversion goes on the 640. I have a 440 that is like new, but has a flatback carb with the primer. I don't know how that I would get the choke linkage to work with a HL carb.

I have been looking through some of my Mac IPLs and found a later 797 IPL that shows a walbro hdc setup. Has anyone ever seen that before, or ever tried that conversion?

I have one Super 797 that has a Tillotson HL-227c, and one that has an adapter with a Walbro HDC. I have a regular 797 with the Flatback (McCulloch model 'W' carb), and one regular 797 coming that has a HL-193.

Well i just did so checking, My IPL for the Super 797
shows the small carb with the adaptor. My IPL for the
regular 797 shows the flatback carb. I have one 797
that has the small carb with adaptor and it is a SDC carb
and says Mcculloch on the fuel pump cover. I was assuming
it might be a Super 797.

Now that we are on the 797 subject, For those who own
one or a few could you check to see if yours has the
rubber antivibe mounts on front of the gas tank under the
handle bar bracket. My IPL shows no mounts but i have one with mounts. Also the 790, 795, 890 and 895 IPL's
show the mounts so why would Mcculloch not put them
on the 797 but then some have them and most do not.

Anti-vibe on a 797? There are rubber isolators here and there, CPs had piecemeal anti-vibe, not "built in" like the SPs. You might have a transitional model, pretty cool.

Do you think that it would be worth it for me to buy the hdc carb adapter for a super 797 and use it to convert my 440 to a hdc carb? All I would need is the adapter and the throttle and choke linkages, I think.

Well Randy, You got me on that one.
I wouldn't really call them antivibe either.
But they are rubber mounts. But i thought it
was strange that the other models have them
and the 797's don't.
