Here are a couple of saws that I have access to. Anyone have an idea of value? This is an older friend of mine that bought these saws new and now doesn't use them. They both run, but the PM700 needs a clutch.

Thank you,
M

That 10-10S has a serious problem, it's cord is limp, I know exactly what's wrong with it! Not enough excitement and it needs a loving home, send it to me immediately and the 700 too, so it's not lonely during the day when I'm away. They are both great saws, cut wood like butter and need a good home, especially that 10-10S!!

Dieselsmoke sent me this brochure a while back, sorry but I've never gotten around to getting it scanned.

Todays acquisitions

A man came by the shop today with two saws that he thought I might be interested in and I bought both of them. One is a Mcculoch 890, price $45.00 It has weak fire and weak (90 #s) compressio. Everthing else looks good, except the airfilter. and it will possible clean-up in the ultrasonic cleaner. I know I am going to catch ++++ for it, but the other one is a Stihl 048 Super, $100.00. It has good fire and 165 #s of compression. Looking at it I see new sprocket, new carb kit and new airfilter. I would appreciate it if someone would open the pictures. Two question: I can use my McCulloch 790 IPL for the 890 on such items as rings, piston and seals? The second question is: the McCulloch has a Mac carb. I have a Tillotson 63 carb. How much trouble is it to change. Thabks for any help. TomView attachment 191339View attachment 191340View attachment 191341View attachment 191342

I see the 890 has the speed saw-chain. I have an IPL for that, the one for a 790 will work for the basic motor.

Are you refering to the loose chain. I just got it in and had time to checked the basics. Thanks for the reply about the IPL. Tom

it is bassackwards Tom.

You ae right. I think that it was mentioned when I was talking to the seller, but I forgot it.
If you are working on the saw it does not take long to find out that it is on backwards.
I sharpeded a chain for a customer today and when I got it on the saw i pulled it to make sure it was ok. I cut my finger on one of the points, turned around to get a paper towel for my finger. The customer told me " I think you have the chain on backwards". I showed hin my finger and said "yes, it is". Tom

Sweet saws Tom. The 048 will be a great all around saw.
The 890 is a nice piece of vintage geardrive muscle.
Yes you can use the 790 ipl for everything but the
gearbox stuff. The HL63 will work great on that saw.
You will just have to make up new throttle and choke
rods. If you need a set i can make them as i have a
set of NOS ones i use to copy. As for compression,
Who knows maybe just stuck rings. If you need a
piston kit send me a pm.

What do you use to make the throttle and choke rod with? Thats a good idea, I might have to get a spare set to copy as well.

That 890 looks pretty good...

An 890 is a 790 with the gear drive set up... so 6+ cubes, plus gear drive, equals a real long ass bar...

Thanks for opening the pictures. I know that I need to learn how, but Ihave not as yet. Tom

No problem. Glad to help.

They (AS personnel) have changed the pic posting method three times since I joined... I don't blame anyone that has trouble posting pics so they show up in the post.
