compression is GREAT and it seems ::confused: that someone replaced the oil tank/motor, or??? as the tank is a battleship gray color...

I would like to know the story behind the gray oil tank as well, I've seen those quite often, I thought the same thing that they were replaced.

My late model 10-10S has the gray color tank. The saw appears to have never been disassembled so I am assuming that it is the original. The picture is not the best angle to see the tank but you can make it out.

SawGarage - The clutch from any 10 Series LH start or 600 Series saw will work so you have lots of options there, not sure about the flywheel, perhaps Stinkbait would be more familiar. I have several of the different saws but haven't had to do a lot of work on the different ones at the same time so I'm not sure what will or will not swap.

Mark

Mark,

thanks for the note on the clutch... That was my understanding as well...

I will have a vid up (later) this morning... (we just got back from a bit of a 'false alarm' with the mumma and our soon-to-be newborn baby boy; (due Sept 6th... so we're on borrowed time :bang: ) soooo... i'm off to BED!

Bryon, QUITE interesting... this 700 should be about close to the same vintage... probably not as YOUNG as the 10-10S I have that says Black and Decker corp on it :)

OH, and Jacob,

And then you broke the recoil to ;) FIVE times

A unique 895 to my collection

I picked up this 895 geardrive on the bay. I actually tried to buy
it off ebay but they declined. I'm glad because i paid less than my
offer. This saw arrived yesterday and as i was giving it a good cleaning
i noticed it had the tilly HL carby, Yes i was happy about that, But what i
noticed a few minutes later made me more intriged. This HL carb has a
fixed high jet. I have never seen one before. Carb number is HL291A,
Never seen that either but it is set up for a Mac. So i did some research
in my IPL's and found this carb was introduced in the 1972 IPL and also
used on the 895C in 1974. The IPL's clearly show the fixed high jet.
This carb also has a wopping 1 inch throttle bore, Very unique.
This 895 is also the only one i have seen with the metal serial number tag
in the air box like a SP125. Tag reads 600135D which corresponds to the
1972 up 895's
Whats also nice about this saw is, It hasn't seen much use. Had the original
points + cond. " can tell by the sealer Mac used on the condenser terminal"
Nothing broken or cracked. A little paint loss but not too bad. I had to give
it a full blown tuneup. Carb rebuild, fuel line, filters, fuel cap and filter cover
grill. It came with a huge 18 inch bar and 1/2 inch chain.
She is now a very sweet runner.

Dan - the tank has only one screw holding the the top on, so open it up to get good access. I had very good success with purple power when nothing else seemed to work.

Be sure to get the inner spring for the fuel line, or take the one out of your existing fuel line to prevent it from kinking where the fuel line twists from the tank to the carburetor.

Mark

So the 10-10s has a 2 pc tank? That explains where the gas was leaking in from,I thought that the line had a hole in it but it did look like it was coming from that seam. Does it require a gasket or will silicon work? As far as the gas line can't you use a piece of tygon like you can on most other saws?

Yet another nice one for your collection Lee. IIRC, there was a large bore fixed H-side HL used on some of the W170 McWelder engines. Think I saw it in the "McCulloch Carburetors" publication. I'll have to go check now. I remember seeing a 'kart style' intake manifold in the IPL covering that McWelder carb setup. Carb throad fed straight down, with no 90degree bend in the manifold. Like a 10-10...

Edit:

Found the Tillotson HL I was thinking of. HL272A. Used on the McCulloch 940 saw and McWelders. Fixed H-Side. 1" throttle bore. .875" venturi. Has a high speed check valve inside too.

Nice lookin' 895 Lee...

That is an interesting find on that carb! You gonna leave that BIG 18" bar on it? You could probably use a limber, huh?:msp_biggrin:

C'mon Aaron .... you and I and the toad out on the patio know that Lee has never even sniffed at a 10-10 ... :hmm3grin2orange:

That's true Ted. He does have a PM850 (or two) IIRC. Should have used that as a reference instead, since it also mounts the carb the same way. I shouldn't confuse the man with talk of teeny tiny little pedestrian saws like a 10-10!

I went out tonight to take care of the small ash tree, also a victim of the storm last Friday night / Saturday morning.

See the tree laying on the ground, and have a close look at the trunk pulled out of the ground, seems like there were no roots attached.

I used the CP55 for most of this one, and the 10G to finish up the trunk. I am pleased to report that the 10G ran very well, oiler works fine, and no more shorting out the plug so maybe I have most of the loose stuff out of the combustion chamber now.

Have fun,

Mark

Sorry but they've change the system again and I don't know how to make the photo's appear in the post.

McCulloch 710 muffler ?

been lurkin' round here, and skeered to poke my head up i've had my pappy's 'ol yeller 710 since he let me take it home back in early 90's. had a big ice storm in 2000 an cut trees outta the road, driveway, pasture gates, highways..... hell we cut trees errywhere:bang:
'ol yeller made it fine 'til half the muffler with the guts blowed out, it still cut fine for limbin an toppin but you hang it in big wood an not only will the noise knock the bark off the tree,it'd get so dang hot it boiled the gas in the tank .
i snagged a stihl to finish the ice storm with an been runnin' a couple of 'em ever since, but .......... it sure would be nice to get the 710 fixed up. Pappy used to cut logs on the side even after i was born. he started in the log woods when he was 11 drivin' a single up skiddin' logs, he's 85 now an i still ask him to tell me those stories about "back when".

HE IS STILL MY HERO i'd like to get this old saw fixed up if i can, the bolts from the cylinder are about all that's left.
any help is most appreciated.

thanks Eccentric for the heads up to this place.
