That's true Ted. He does have a PM850 (or two) IIRC. Should have used that as a reference instead, since it also mounts the carb the same way. I shouldn't confuse the man with talk of teeny tiny little pedestrian saws like a 10-10!

Yep, I do got me a pair of them's eight five oooo's
Although the 10 series don't do much for me, I do
have a Super LG2 bow saw. and someday would like
to get a CP70 or 7-10 in nice shape.

So the 10-10s has a 2 pc tank? That explains where the gas was leaking in from,I thought that the line had a hole in it but it did look like it was coming from that seam. Does it require a gasket or will silicon work? As far as the gas line can't you use a piece of tygon like you can on most other saws?

I haven't found a silicone that would stand up to the fuel. You need the cork gasket.

The fuel line is a molded piece that fits in a 3/8" hole in the rear tank wall. Regular tygon won't work. I've tried to find a bulkhead fitting to fill the hole so you could use tygon, but haven't found anything suitable yet.

Does anyone have a good method for cleaning out the vent in the fuel cap on a 795?

If it's the cap with the round sintered piece in the middle,
The you just push it out from the bottom side through
the duck bill, If the duck bill is even there anymore. You
can clean it that way and replace the duck bill. Chances
are you will need it.

Carb cleaner will help dissolve what is left of the duckbill too.

I have never seen an old MAC with the original duckbill. Lee is right, those things just melt over time.

Thanks Dennis, will have to see if I can find a gasket and gas line somewhere. I tried to call Bob Johnson several times but no answer,I'm wondering if he was flooded out up there in NY.

I have used double sided 3M tape like the kind used for applying automotive emblems. For sealing those gas tanks it works great, I've done it several times. Just remove the old cork and lay the tape down around the fuel tank and the air box. After you've assembled it you can come back with a razor knife and trim it.

For the fuel line, I've used the tygon line. Where the line goes through the tank I've used a larger sized tube about half an inch long slid over the tygon and it made a tight fit in the hole through the tank

Fuel lines are less than $15, around $10. Pee around with a bulkhead fitting ($5-7) and the line and you are there.

Its your saw, do what you want.

Anything like Motoseal or Yamabond will work if the surfaces are cleaned up. The auto emblem tape trick is cool if it stands up. Might try that soon.

Both are good ideas,I might try the Tygon trick. I just ordered a roll of cork gasket material to make my gaskets.

The main reason I wanted to use tygon is that I've got a lot of it and I wouldn't have to pull the top of the tank off to change it out. With the ethynol problem it looks like we'll be changing lines about every year.

I wish I could tell you what two sizes of lines I used for one of my 10-10's. I do remember that I needed to lube the main fuel line to slide the short piece over it, it was very tight. I also needed to lube the hole in the tank to slide the assembled line into place. It looks kinda rigged but it worked and sealed good. I will also tell you that the short piece I used to help seal through the tank needs to be something that won't swell. I first tried with a short rubber piece over the tygon and the rubber swelled and closed off the fuel line.

The newer lines have an end to stick a new style filter on. Push it into the tank, and pull it through with a needle nose or hemostat.

You can still get the old bell bottom for the wick style filter also.

Again, use whatever you want. Nobody looks under the cover anyhow.

I am this far on the 10-10 A:

I put the flywheel on without a felt washer between the points cover and the flywheel. There are two teflon thin washers there but they don't do anything without the felt between them, about a 1/8 inch gap between flywheel and cover. Do you guys think this is okay or should I put it on hold until I can find a felt washer?

Yes, the dreaded Mini Macs that are seen on CL here for 75+ bucks... the crappy newer ones, not the good old ones.
