Can someone tell me if the CP125 oil tank housing will fit the SP125 saw? Looking at the IPL they are different part numbers, just figured they might just fit.

Thanks,

No, they are different at the AV mounts. McCulloch sold retro fit kits (I have a brand new one) to convert the CPs to SPs. The oil tank is part of the kit, along with the lower handle brace and front shock.

I've got an NOS SP-81/PM850 piston and rings (in box). "C" application. Part #92520. Would like to trade it with someone for an "A" application piston assembly. Part # 92518. Piston and rings are new and basically perfect. Box is still intact. Mixup...:(

Not in a big hurry for it. I got an NOS SP-81/PM850 (that's the models that the McCulloch "cylinder kit" paperwork addressed) cylinder/piston "kit" to put aside for whenever I need to freshen up my SP-81 (or rebuild a dead saw if one comes my way). Somehow, the piston in the "kit" got switched with a "C" piston. My cylinder is an "A" cylinder (stamped next to the decomp valve port). Anybody here have an "A" (92518) piston for these saws?

Alternatively, does anyone here need a "C" piston (92520) for these saws and want to trade something else for it...........or maybe wanna buy it? Only one "A" piston on feebay right now, and it's bloody expensive. Same guy is also listing a "C" piston like mine for the same money....

Dang. I wish you were trying to get rid of a "B" piston. All three of my 81 saws have "B" cylinders. I believe that there is actually a difference in bore and piston size between the "A", "B", and "C".

na na na bo boooo!:D

Yep. I think my SP-81 has a "B" cylinder (unmarked) right now as well. The strange thing is, McCulloch seems to have only used one ring set for all three cylinder/piston sets. Must be a slight enough difference in bore diameter (between the three sizes) than the ring gap can absorb it. Those are THIN rings too.

If I can't find someone to trade or buy my "C" piston, I'm going to send it back to the fellow who traded the parts to me. He already told me he'd make it right, and I have no reason to not trust him.

After comparing the CP to an SP they are different in the mounts, very different. The SP mounts from the bottom, CP from the front. Know where another of those kits are? I'm gathering the parts for a NOS SP125 build, I have most everything already, just need an oil tank and the fuel tank/handle.

Thanks Chris

Sorry, the kit came with my CP saw.

I posted this over in the chainsaw forum, guess most of the youngsters haven't a clue how sweet these saws were (and still are)

It is a project I bought from the classifieds here. Repaired the bar studs and bottom handle mount. The muffler cover was pretty well shot and came sans a spike.

Found a little time to give the old girl some lovin' last week. Other than the aforementioned problems the saw runs great and has some serious compression, 70cc of good ole American power!

Is that a PM700, 7-10 or 6-10?

I've had 2 PM700s and 2 7-10, solid strong runners for sure. Pretty much puts my 10-10 on the back burner, that's for sure.

Good running old saws, I like your muffler on there.

By the way fellas I picked up a 550 carcass the other day for $10! Has a good piston and cylinder, just missing starter, clutch, clutch cover and so on. I've got boxes of parts to fit onto it.

Yesterdays score is already on eBay, check out the "I saw it" thread.

Any word on the coil yet Mr Eccentric?

Chris

It's going to the PO on Tuesday along with Ted's old creamsicle AF cover and Cris's (another Chris) Homelite bar. Mr Eccentric is hopefully at the end of a rough couple of weeks....:bang:

Good News 185 psi!

I've been stacking rock and shoveling gravel all day with my s-i-l building my wife a rock wall. He had to go at 4:30 so I wandered downstairs to the chainsaw lab. Put a little oil on the dry cylinder of the red 101B and managed to get it up to 82 psi as the highest - usually just a hair less than 80 psi. Got impatient and took the shroud off so I could remove the head. Found every one of the head bolts finger tight. I removed the the head and cleaned out the oil. Put it back together and consistantly hit 185 psi before I wore out myself.:chainsawguy: I may rig up a tank tomorrow after church and see if she'll run. Ron

PS bore looks great and measures 2.285" give or take a hair

No sweat, just a friendly reminder.

Maybe I'll give you a holler tonight, much to talk about friend. I have been The Duke of Dukes recently.

I sometimes think you guys need to publish a dictionary. :msp_sad:

You don't even want to know!

My projects have been sitting, too busy. Even been doing the bare minimum to the worksaws. Not the norm for me.

Anyways, wife is now working every other Saturday, so I figure this is a good time to square the 1-76 away.

Been out of the loop.....anyone know of a good, dependable source for piston+rings and seals?

Figure I might as well get them ordered. Should have a little time to #### off and get the saw done. Then on to the 895...........then I can justify another project
- Sam - Hope you all are well.
