here was the fun part, i tried to see how many i could get running at once. i got 33 running before i got too tired to start another and i was running out of light. i tried to go get my stihls, huskys, and craftsmans but with all these macs running they were hiding somewhere. i forgot to get out the mcculloch generator. i'm beat after that......anyone want to try to top it??? 33 is the count, only one person starting all is the rules. :hmm3grin2orange:

video quality is poor, i was using my phone. i don't think i will do this again to get a better video unless i got more help.

I saw that, too. Funny, I had one of these out on the bench this morning and I decided to measure the throttle bore and the bore into the reed plate. .808, smaller than an HL and the flatback. Might be more than just porting that makes the 125s torquey and the 797s peaky.

According to the McCulloch carburetor book, the SDC18, SDC19, and SDC20, and SDC22 are all .750" venturi and .812"throttle bore.

The HL19 and HL63 have a .687" venturi and .812" throttle bore.

The HS 70 and 71 have a .687" venturi and .812" throttle bore.

Funny thing is the SDC18 was original equipment on smaller saws (CP55/70/7-10 and Super 2-10 & Super 6-10), the HS71 was used on several of the smaller saws as well.

The SDC19 was used on some 795L and Super 797 saws.

The SDC20 & HS70 were used on the CP125

The SDC22 was used on the Super 2-10C

I swapped the original fixed jet SDC on one of my SP125's for a fully adjustable SDC18 (after modifying it to accept the remote impulse line) and the difference is definitely noticeable.

What is Bore & Stroke on my 3420?

I've been looking at two different IPLs, one for Eagerbeaver 3.4/3.7, and on the Acres site, and all of them seem to have gibberish for the bore and stroke numbers. One IPL is for the PM610 and does not list the 605, but it also doesn't make any sense. They've got inches that don't match the mm numbers and/or don't calculate to anything like the correct displacement. What are the right numbers?

Old saw's

Ok i am old, and never ran some of these old saw's------my mac-300 had a 36" bar on it from some 30yrs ago. I did not put it on it------I am restoring a mac supper 44A (big saw, physically )-- how big of bar were used on these saw's? I know what acres site have listed about what was offered form the factory------- anybody use the big saw's in the day? not you young-en's, not saying that you don't know what you are talking about. just would like to know from some old-timers (like me)-------HOW big were bars back in the 50's and 60's? and what mac's were used?

Not from CA nor can I address the 50s as I wasn't quite 4 when they closed out but in the early to mid sixties folks in my area (Florida) ran bows primarily but many had straight factory hardnose bars as well - pretty short by today's standards 16" to 20" - all stubby looking some seemed almost as wide as they were long. Ron

For a lot of years my only saw was a good old McCulloch 300 (60's vintage) with an 18" or 20" McCulloch bar.

Even though these old beasts had a lot of guts, I don't think I could recommend more than 24" for the kind of hard wood we cut around here. Of course, I have been spoiled a bit by some more modern saws that I've run.

Check post 11719 on this sticky, there are the IPL's there. the 3420 is a 3.4 cubic inch motor with a 20" bar.

Thanks, but no Silver Eagle 3420 IPL there, and the EagerBeaver3.4/3.7 IPL I have is much clearer. I know the displacement, but I was curious what the bore and stroke are.

The IPL lists:


Bore and Stroke PM 610/650/E.B. 3.7 1.9 in. x 1.5 in. (4.7mm to 35mm)
PM 605 1.8 in. x 1.375 in. (40mm x 35mm)

Which is funny, because not one of those matches the actual displacement, although the PM605 in inches comes close at 3.5CID.

Anyway, I was just out putting on new carb and exhaust gaskets, and cleaning it up some. Still waiting on the grommet that seals the airbox around the carb screws and the new bar & chain. From what I can see of the cylinder and piston they are in near perfect shape. I know these saws don't get a lot of respect, and they're a bit wide and heavy, but I like them quite a bit. This one has been quite reliable and has good power, and I expect to be running it for a long time.

That is my thanks for the SP125 tip. I'm happy to finally get one and at such a good deal.

I know that what I sent to you is not a complete set for the saw. I didn't fully disassemble my SP70 to check all the bolts. I still think I can get the rest of what you need. It just might take a little more thinking. So, let me know.

which macs does this fit ? my 1-71 uses a broader tailed bar. the chain rubs on the side plates with this one.

the slot is 3/8" wide
