Ed - I have a CP55 and CP70. The 55 runs very well and has become one of my favorite limbing saws. It is a lot stonger than my 2050 Jonsered though displacement is about the same, it is a bit bulkier than the Jonsered.

My CP70 is quite worn so it doesn't rip the way a 70 cc 10 Series saw should. Since I have a few 82 cc saws to choose from (SP81, SP81, PM800) I just leave the CP70 on the shelf looking good.

Almost all parts for the saws can still be found if you do a little searching. Even the anti-vibration mounts can be found for a reasonable price.

If the saw hasn't already been converted from the old spur to a rim type, now would be the time. I see drums on feepay all the time.

Awesome, Randy! Just what I needed. Now I think I'll try that bar or a large mount Husky. 27" seems like it would be a good length, but I just dunno, what do you think? I don't really have anything bigger than that around here, so it'd be for looks, anyway, but I don't want to put a spoiler on a prius and have y'all laugh at me for an oversized bar that it could never pull!

BTW, not Mac related, but I got that Skil 1616 apart and the plug wire came right out of the coil. I think I found that I can source a new one from NAPA. Did you ever try to diagnose it, or was the coil fine until I manhandled it?

Not too big. Mine wears a 25" with full comp and Randy will be along directly with a pic of his wearing a 36" bar.

Stumbled upon this video on youtube...

if you watch it, you'll see a big old two man Mac in it, somewhere in the middle of the clip...

Looks brand new...

Amazing how big those trees were... kinda sad too, since most of them have been cut down. I just wonder how big some of those *******s would be by now...

Champion Spark Plug Temp Range

This is my second attempt at posting this question. Sorry for a double post if the 1st one magically appears.....

I've been running Champions plugs for years in all my saws. Basically I run: DJ8J in -10 series and the SP-60, 70 & PM700, I use DJ7J in all the 80cc saws and DJ6J in my SP-125's, 795 and 797.

Today I was reading a Champion catalog which has: the 790 series and my DE80 as a DJ8J (hot plug). But the SP60 and SP70 as DJ6J (cold plug).

Could someone explain, why the hotter plug in only the DE80 and not in my PM800 or PM805? Timing? The same question goes for SP-125 and the 797. Both are 123cc, but why two temp ranges difference between saws?

When in doubt, I run a colder plug, but I'm not sure if this because of Champion or because many of these saws were spec'd with AC plugs in mind. And no I have no desire to use NGKs. I tried using them in my snowmobiles with very poor results.

Any ideas?????

You just put up two videos that I would call direct click. In other words, the start picture is shown on the AS screen.

Can you do that with Photobucket and, if so, how do you do it?

Thanks. ODW

Yes... for photobucket, you should be able to select an option written as (may be in brackets...) and paste that into your post...

OR

you can go to the page where you can watch your video, and then copy the url address, and then paste that in between [v1deo]paste it here[/v1deo] Just substitute the 1's that I used with i's... and it should pop right up.

Both the Super and the 250 have a 33" cut length beyond the spikes, the 250 has 3/8" rim sprocket. To get a 30" cutting length, you might need to add upto 7 inches in OAL.

Yo Shop Monkey!
I recognize some of the Redwood video area, that huge crane at 1:30ish was at Pacific Lumber's Mill "B" at Scotia, I watched that thing for hours. The log decks and lumber drying yard was PL's as well.
Just before you see the Mac two-man, there is the bottom side of a Homelite 900 series.

Right at the start of this video Clear Cutting a Forest - YouTube, you see the older faller casually saunter off, while his second sawyer continues pumping the jacks, that was my job when I worked with old Ray. Ray did the set-up and much of the sawing, I got to remove undercut blocks, site clearance, pack a couple hundred pounds of crap around. I did hours upon hours of bucking too, all for 50 bucks a day plus lunch.

The thing about Old Growth is they change very slowly, 50 years might only add 4 to 6 inches in diameter, some Redwoods would lose more in rot from the inside.
