i was tearing down a saw today and once again was staring at the felt on the FW side of the shaft wondering where to get a replacement. Then it hit me... during a recent rebuild of the clothes dryer I ordered and used some felt. I had some left over due to a goof from the seller. it looks like it would work. it cuts with a razor knife. it is 4' long. And it is cheap.

anyone got a D36 manual, or insight? --- just need to double check some things on the R&I on the oil tank/gas tank. And I don't really want to find out how the recoil spring is set up the hard way. shoot me a PM please if you can help me out.
Ive got one that was running a while back.
Offer what knowledge I can :)

I know the recoil is a plastic pinion setup. Seems like there was a manual floating somewhere...?

Yours have the manual oiler installed?

anyone got any more to add to this list? or know where i can easily get more? again, i'll be building a shop manual CD to send to anyone that would like it. i don't want to burn any until i feel like i've got about all i can get.

thanks Joey

I don't have any full shop manuals that you don't already have listed, but I do have the general service information for the sp125 and the 600 series saws that I might be able to scan (if I can figure it out) if there's any interest in them. I would be intersted in the ipl and shop manual cd's also. I have a couple old service libraries that I'll double check, but I think you already have most everything that I do plus quite a bit more. I also think I have the shop manual for some mcculloch generators if anyones into that.

The genny shop manuals sound pretty cool... it can't hurt to add that to the list.

MarkH probably has a Mac genny... He's got most things McCulloch... :D

I have the General Service Information packets for the SP125, SP80, PM 600 Series, and Mini Mac 6 & 6A. I think I've already passed the SP125 along to Joey, the others are too large to send by e-mail and will have to wait unit I am back in country and can put together a CD to pass along.

I did spend some time going through the Service Bulletins I have and have them organized by saw size/type and will include those in the stuff I send to Joey.

If anyone have Service Bulletins before #1571 or after #1923 I would like to add them to my files.

Mine does have the manual pump factory mod. I had thoughts of opening up the bottom of the cylinder to make sure the bearings and all were good on the crank. Only way (I see) to pop open the crankcase is with bolts in the gas tank. Getting to the gas tank appears to be a multi-phase project of its own. The more I mess with it the more I am inclined to leave it alone.

I removed the flange bolts holding the oil tank on the gas tank. Everything is stuck tight at the moment. After cleanup, I can clearly see a 'sandwich' of (in order) oil tank, gasket thing, metal plate, gasket thing, gas tank.

Vic, the starter on the D-30/36 is really pretty simple, you can use a screwdriver to turn the pinion and remove the pin that engages it to the shaft, then un-wind or wind up the spring as needed. It is a different mechanism no doubt, but actually quite simple to work on.

Mark

I'll take a closer look. I pulled the FW and cover (with the starter case built in). I just don't want to end up entangled in a mass of springsteal and dammit. Other than the shot to pride, finding a replacement spring (if I break it) and winding it back up with no clue as to the setup would be naive. I do naive things all the time, but I see this one coming.

Oh - if you need a section of it for bench stock, just shoot me a PM with your mailing address.... I'll keep about 6 inches of it myself for engines with points, but other than that.... I'll send a short length of it your way.

I was hanging around Southern California on a lil arborist job a bud hooked me up with last week and found a local there had this for sale:

It has a 33" B&C... I think. That chain is hanging a bit, but it's at the end of the bar adjustment. The bar has nothing marked on it aside from '0B 050 GA'. Eccentric stated it may be a 106DL bar.

It started fine and sounds great. But I thought what the guy was asking was too much. So, I had to pass.

OK, just kidding. I found out what the guy was asking for and I then added that to the cost of the job I had to do in So Cal and bought the saw. Now I need to do sumfin about that handle and maybe get a 24" bar for it.

Yea my D36 has the factory installed manual mod. I guess it was factory done.

That is one saw that just got a air compressor cleaning. Looked really complicated, so I left it be :) But it did run

There is a chance I could pick up a few new retrofit kits for the d36 oilers from an old shop I found, would these be desirable, or just a curiosity?

It will pull that bar just fine, take it down and have a driver or three removed. I have a 24" bar on my SP81 and the saw is always asking for more.

Wyk, what a life - just hanging around So Cal and find a PM800 to boot. Ron

The weather was fabulous, and I ate way too many tacos. But I did actually get some work done. Still, I have certainly worked in a few worse places.

This 800 is super quiet for a mac. Anything I can do about that? ;)
I'll remove a few links. I am thinking 6-8 of them? Whatcha think? Mebbe I should take the entire saw tot he shop and ask em to fit it? I'd hate to od that. Makes me feel very non DIY at that point... But I don't have a breaker or spinner.

Yep. I haven't burried them yet, but I'd wager that my SP-81 won't have any trouble with either the 28" or 32" bars I have for it.

Swap on an SP80/81 muffler. Someday you and I will run our saws together. You will hear the difference. You won't be able to hear your PM800 when my SP-81 is running. No you cannot have my muffler!:D

If you wanna be more "DIY", then use a bench grinder to cut the rivets from the chain and open it up. Once you grind off the rivet heads, you can tap it apart with a hammer and punch. Thread the chain around the bar and sprocket (with the bar in the first 1/3 of adjustment) and figure out how many drivers you need to remove. Grind the rivets to remove the offending section, then take that chain to your local dealer and have 'em spin it together with a preset. Much better than bringing them the whole saw and saying "fix it please"...:jester:

I always bring my older saws in to get chains fitted because you never know if the guy behind the counter has a bunch of old saws sitting at home he wants to get rid of. This happened to me, I brought in a Poulan 4900 to get a chain fitted and ended up buying 3 8500's and a 5400 off the guy for $80, now this does not happen every time, but it did once.

Mark,

I have bulletins from 1499-1661. I could probably copy 1499-1570 if you'd like.

Jeff

Thank Jeff, I would like that indeed. The ones I have are scanned from microfiche so I only have the electronic versions. If you have the orginals and access to a scanner that might be easiest, otherwise if you could make copies and send them to me I can get them scanned.

Thanks,

Mark

Those of ya that PM'd me about the oiler discs, they went out with the mail lady this morning. I apologize for taking so long to get them out, but it's been a bit hectic around here lately.

More can be made about any time if there's a need for them.
