McCulloch Chain Saws

As a reminder... I had my 850 with the 28" bar with full comp chain being spun around it nearly buried in maple... it only had about 1-3" sticking out the other end at most. It was tuned pretty fat during the cutting session. (breaking her in) If it can pull that tuned a bit too rich, it'll pull a 32" with little to no trouble. And I was pulling up on the rear handle most of the time and it did not stall.

Might not be able to get all ham fisted and lean on the saw in real hard wood with a 32" bar or bigger... but if you dig back and find pics of RandyMac felling old growth, he mentioned a 32" or 36" bar, and an eight pin rim, in softer west coast timber... I can't recall accurately if he said he ran full comp or semi or full skip chain. However, something's telling me he said full comp...

Oh wait... these PM800, 850 and related 82cc saws suck.

Those that like saws, skip over these 82cc Macs. You won't like them. Really.

(help me out here guys... we need to bring those blasted prices down again!)

Thank Jeff, I would like that indeed. The ones I have are scanned from microfiche so I only have the electronic versions. If you have the orginals and access to a scanner that might be easiest, otherwise if you could make copies and send them to me I can get them scanned.

Thanks,

Mark

I will try to get them copied for you when I get a chance.

Jeff

I think that I finally got the 125 going. I just need a big tree to try it out on now. Still need to find a muffler cover for it though.

Eccentric, CPR... I think you guys need to put your moneys together and get this International... We're gonna need it to haul MarkH's shop to an undisclosed location in the UP... :D

I'm not saying anything, Kyle. Everytime I talk about 7.5 cube Macs, the price triples and 10 more people want them.

Yeah... that's a problem...

People, you don't want these old yellow saws. They require rebuilds all the time, and break a lot.

Seems like as soon as I mentioned how good the 850 was, that's when they started going for buku bucks on fleabay... I still can't believe someone was stupid enough to pay north of 800 bucks for that certain one... they're good, but quite frankly, not really that good...

People with more money than common sense piss me off... they're always the ones that buy stuff at prices well over what a person really should buy it at.

For example, who the hell wants to pay more than 40 bucks for a 610? I like the saw, but I sure as hell wouldn't pay more than 40 for a mint runner these days. Buncha idiots...

Are you referring to the same idiots that will give 75.00 for a plastic Homelite but won't give 25.00 for a good running Poulan XXV?

Last hook of the year, the Ghost broke the right axle with the nose up. It was "exciting."

And it isn't an IH, it's a HME.

Removed one link from the chain. Turns out the guy had the cover resting on the adjuster and had the side plate on the wrong side of the cover as well. I also measured the bar again and it came out closer to 32".

Almost forgot to add. The compression on this one seems even more than on my 7-10. It wont budge with that 32" bar on it dangling off the starter cable.

Vic, the starter on the D-30/36 is really pretty simple, you can use a screwdriver to turn the pinion and remove the pin that engages it to the shaft, then un-wind or wind up the spring as needed. It is a different mechanism no doubt, but actually quite simple to work on.

Mark

got it done. 'someone' (*SENT!*) a new starter pinon :msp_thumbup: ,and that is on with a new cord and cleanup...

gotta find a trigger at some point. the one on the saw is missing half, and I don't see one in my donor pile. not sure if one of the other saws' trigger will fit... gotta dig through the other saws to see.

I feel for you. When I started on AS good PM800s could be had for $100 to $125. Now look at them. Same thing is going on with all SP saws. SP 60s and SP70s were under $100. Pretty but non-running SP60 sold for $212.50 this week. :eek2: Ron
