After taking the photo's I did find the spike Cliff sent along so that is now mounted as well.

Enjoy!

Have you run it yet?

Perhaps I can get over to Mweba's on Saturday, he normally has some logs to cut on and can handle the video part of the operation.

I'd like to try the 655 I just finished as well. It did not work properly at the GTG last month due to carburetor issues.

I've extra 600 series parts, let me know if you need a carb, etc.

I have the chance to buy an S 44. It appears to be in pretty good shape and he claims it runs good. I've never bought a McCulloch that runs before. I'm confused. :msp_unsure:

on a side note, why did the PM700 die? you could bring it back to life?

From what Dad says, it started making funny noises and then seized up. He fiddled with it for a while and got it to free up somehow but it has no compression.

Even if it can be fixed I doubt I can get my hands on it.

Thanks to Eccentric the Super 250 is back to wood cutting form. Just for fun I weighed the setup. 30lbs. Hopefully this weekend I will get to cut up some more white oak for firewood. I have some used .404 chains from the old bar and they are 73 or 74 links. The chains for this bar are 76 and 77 links. The bars are the same length but this one is taller.

I'm also on a SP81 project. i just got a 20" sprocket nose bar and put a .404 tip in it. the bar is .058ga. i plan to run a 8 tooth rim. i'm looking for a chain recomendation. I've been looking at some Oregon chain and the Carlton, but i need the experts opinion. its just for show off purposes, i may use it sometimes for scaring my buddies that use those creamsicle saws.

also, how many links?

You're going to get the DL from the specs for the bar. IMHO, with going to the 8 pin, I'd add 2 drive links.

Its got spark!!!!!!!!!!

Its alive...sort of. Ditched the points and condenser on my 2-10 and put the nova chip in. Sparks like hell now. And dont worry, the bottom/cylinder head cover clears the chip:dizzy: Got a little more construction to go, converting from the bullfrog style carb to the cube. Hopefully it runs!

Heres the 2-10.......took it apart and cleaned it up a bit and gave it a quick scrub n' shoot paint job. Not bad. I changed the top tank/air box from a later saw that has the safety in the handle and was tapped ready to go for the cube style carb.( thanks joeymt33) I ran into a few snags here and there but i think i have everything straightened out. Ill bolt the carb on tomorrow, I have a few carb gaskets to make.

OT - I think you will have to re-badge that saw to call it a 2-10S (Special) as a real 2-10 would run the little bull frog carburetor.

I have a 5-10 that someone converted to the cube style carburetor, runs pretty well.

Modified Mark gave me a nice 2-10 a couple of years back and with a little work and adjustment the saw runs just fine. I also have this 3-10 DSP I got from the Hosky boys a while back, also a nice runner.

Actually the strange little carburetors were quite innovative, just too different for most to be comfortable to work with...that and the fact that like all things McCulloch at the time there were at least 5 or 6 varients of the carburetor each with their own little quirks.

Starts easy and idles good but dies when you squeeze the throttle. The PO told me there was a little gas left in it which he didn't dump when he added new to it so I probably have some carb work to do but maybe it just needs some adjusting.

He had it listed for $100 and I offered him $60 which got an immediate no so I went up to $80 and after many moments of agony on his part, he took it. Then, as I was walking out, he walked over and pulled out a box with several chains in it and gave it to me.

I am going to have to work on my right handed starting technique. :dizzy: :hmm3grin2orange:

Did you try the old carb after the ignition upgrade to see if it would run or were you too far in at that point?
