Unfortunately for me, I'm saw funds poor right now because somebody scored bigtime. There isn't a shred of doubt in my mind that was a 797 (66251 on the block) and with a NOS General roller to boot.

Oh well, good for whomever got it.

Charles, when you grin we can see the mouse's tail! :hmm3grin2orange:

Confidence level on that one is high...

P.S. - Did you notice the cylinders in my post 18141? Why didn't we notice the small exhaust port and missing impulse barb that morning we look at it?

I'm very disappointed in both of us for not noticing that during the 5 minutes we stared at it. I actually wish you didn't bring it out in the open. Now people's suspicion about my ignorance will have some backing.

The cylinder without the barb indicates a saw that is uncushioned like either the 10-10's or the 700 or 4300 did you measure the bore diameter ?

McBob.

You have to read the fine print in the original post Bob, it is a 2" bore so I am suspecting PM700. Any idea why it would have the "C" stamp on top? I cannot find any reference in the parts lists that I have to any distinctions for the pistons used in those models.

Mark

Sorry Mark it would be a cylinder grade mark i think never repaired many 700's to know different

This is my buddy Justin and his newly acquired McCulloch 660, Justin likes to buy my project saws that sit, he also is addicted to gear drive saws so this saw was perfect for him. We did some additional tuning as I felt in the video that while it started out rich it leaned out quite a bit so we richened up the H a tad, it is also missing a dawg which he made today and will be attaching here shortly. The saw cleaned up nicely and runs great, the bar is a 40 inch hard nose from tip to tip with new .404 skip tooth chain.

How fast are Stutt's Kart's?:D

They used to be the dominating force when I was a kid. Everything is McCulloch there. There are a few saws there that would make you guys happy. I already tried to buy them all at one time or another...lol.

If you guys ever need odd parts, I'd be glad to ask about them. It's a pretty big mess there, but he seems to know what he has.

I did make some progress on getting the 81E back together. Bore is very straight and true; could be an "A" with just a touch of wear or a "B" with very little wear. I can't find any markings on the cylinder so I am leaning towards the "B" as that was the default. Piston is a bit scuffed but I didn't want to put a new piston in this one without being positive on the right one so I cleaned everything up as best I could and used it anyway. I checked it before tearing it down and it was making 150 PSI so I figure it will still run all right.

I did set the standard late model electronic ignition coil on this one and it certainly fits properly. I will put it together with the real ignition set up and try to check the timing between the two using an electronic timing light while spinning the saw over with a drill.

Here's how things look so far.

Mark, I don't know about the timing but it will run with the modern coil. At least my 850 did after I swapped out the two piece. Ron

PS I haven't forgotten your handle.

"the bar is a 40 inch hard nose from tip to tip"

That must be an east coast way of measuring the bar. When he's not using it he can hang it on the wall next to his 8 point buck.

I never put that bar on a saw, so when I picked it up it measured 40 inches and sense it may measure differently depending on what generation or even drive of saw I thought I would just measure the entire thing. It actually measures out to a 37 and a quarter inch cut without the dawg and when the dawg is installed it will be around 35 and three quarters inch on a 660 McCulloch. Spokane Washington is actually considered to be on the west coast and when it comes to whitetail deer I count all the points, mule (blacktail) deer and elk each side is counted eg. 4x4 ect.:D
