Well, I've pretty much talked myself into a MS 200. I want a Stihl, so no Husky-Dolmar wars please. Nothing else seems as light, powerful and well made. I will be using it for ground work - limbing, peckerpoles, hemlocks and such; mostly under 8". I wanted your opinions regarding bar length, make and also has anyone used the the new E Light bar. Yes I know I can do this with my 361 with the 18" bar, but I WANT A 200!!!

Any advice or experience with the MS 200 would be appreciated.

I have a 14" e-lite bar on mine at the moment. Excellent saw to add to any arsenal. Very fast and well balanced.
Enjoy.

Also the stihl 12" bar in 1/4 pitch chain, perfectly suited to a 200, good power, it'll deal to 6" - 8" logs no sweat.

Nope... The 200 has a completely sealed cylindrical filter... and... I've never had to clean mine yet! (even after cutting railway ties with it...)

Weve had it for months! na na na na na na :buttkick: :buttkick:

It has a really nice "easy start" recoil... - a spring "elastostart" built into the rope bobin. Very cool... feels like a real recoil, but very easy to pull. Sure beats the crap out of the "un-easy" start on the other saws...

We won't be getting the rear handled 192 until Sept.

Catalog says 192 C-E has the easy start........is that the only way
it comes? Also says it's same weight as the 192T, that can't be right
can it?

Thinking about getting one for my Dad's birthday.

Crap..............I take to long to hunt and peck

Only easy start, but as above.. it works great... (and you'll likely see it in many other Stihl saws), and yes, same low weight.

I run a 16 on mine.. a REALLY sweet saw...
.

Agreed 100%, bought it last year, it is my personal climbing saw, I won't go back to a top handle for climbing after having a rear handle MS 200.

Last year it lost it's virginity up in the trees, this year it is doing some clean ground work, but is still my personal baby and heaven help the person who sticks it in the dirt.

It is a very nice well balanced, good running and cutting saw for the size.

Darn, Lake beat me to it on the airfilter question. The entire air intake system on the rear handle version of the MS 200 including the filter is totally different from the top handle models. No switcheroo's of the handle on these like you could do to the older 020's

...and... even though you aren't supposed too... you can use it single handed, with great reach. Wouldn't want to do it all day, but..

Actually... the engine is the same as the 200t.. and you can swap all the handle junk over to make one out of the other. Need more stuff than on the old 020 though.

Dad will be 69 this Aug., trimming limbs and sprouts the 026 hurts his
shoulders, he has been talking about a light weight saw. It will have
less than 20 or so tanks run a year.......thought it mite be what he needs.

perfect little saw... My neigbor is an older woman that can't even pull over an 026, but she had no problems with the 192.

Ballpark.........how much $ in parts to switch MS200T to MS200?
Or is it not worth it.....if buying new parts........I would try to sell
the old parts, saw is about 9 months old, I would take to big of a
hit at dealer to trade.

It would be a bundle in new parts.. I'd guess $170 plus.. Of course if you have a busted handle etc on a 200T... then...

I call this the ultimate top handle saw, the 335, modded with a side handle, the dangerous chainbrake system stripped and ditched, tweaked muffler, comfortable, very light, smooth and grunty.
