MS460 problem

I Was bucking some hardwood logs and all of a sudden my 460 died. I couldn't start it again it wouldn't even fire. I Tried a few hours later and I could get it going, but it dies immediately after pushing the throttle. Any suggestions?

Take the muffler off and see what the piston looks like

Put gas in it.......
Make sure what's in it isn't cloudy, being water mixed in with the gas.

I went through a full tank of the same gas on an MS261 with no problem. I don't think its the gas. Could the fuel filter be dirty?

If you pour the last fuel out of a can, that's where the water will be......on the bottom. It separates.

Tank vent or spark issue will shut a saw down.

Fuel/air/spark/compression

Those are what you need, so check each one.

As said above, pulling the muffler and taking a peak at the piston is your first step.

Fuel/air/spark/compression...... and then some way of the resulting gas to escape.
Check spark arrestor screens and see if they are not plugged up with carbon deposits- while you have the muffler off checking the piston condition.
