The Nati, Oh Hi, Yo
Anybody seen in person or ran the new replacement for the ms200. Was talking with my bud the head mechanic at Stihl dlr. for 30 yrs. and he's been telling me for a while that he and others have seen picts of the new climbing saw but not in person.

Word from him is it is a cheaper quality saw but the price is gonna be higher. Heard ms200's are flying off the shelves in lieu of this pos replacement.

Nothing in the 2011 dealer support manuals. If it is coming, dealers don't know about it yet. Mine said there are PLENTY of 200's to go around.

I hope you are right, better get a new one soon, just incase, gonna retire the old one and bronze it like baby shoes! Its been my pardner for along time!

I find it hard to believe it will be a pos after seeing the latest line of replacement models, 362, 261, 291, 311, 391 etc, most if not all have major improvements over the model it replaced. With the image and position of the 200t, I'll bet the pos comments are the result of someone who has never seen it, let alone run it making comments off of paper specs like the 261, most likely by a stihl hater.
I'd hold judgement until it's out.

The comments from someone with eons more experience than you center on materials. Head Mech. for over 30 years at Stihl dlrship 50 hrs a week every week.

Anyway....how do you improve on perfect?....the ms200

Sounds like schit that happens at many companies like McCullough, Homelite, etc etc. Greed pushes giving less and charging more.

We'll see. I have owned just about every good (I thought) Stihl since early 70's. There have been some stinkers....029 comes to mind.

I just called my local saw shop (they been there over 30 years) and I was told that there spring 2011 book shows nothing about a new 200T and no one there has heard anything about a new model. Although he did say there has been some changes to some models because of EPA stuff. He also said the ms290 is done. He assused me they have plenty of 200Ts in stock and can get more. He also said he would be happy to get a few of them ready for pick-up....LOL...I said I will be down in a few weeks for ONE of them...They are a good buncha folks there..

Went right to the source a few minutes ago and emailed the Stihl website and in 2 replies found the story I was told by 2 people at an established Stihl dealership was absolutely untrue.

My apologies for passing on second hand misinformation.

All the fun in rumors is finding out whether they're true or not. No harm no foul

No problem treevet. I would rather have a false alarm than wake up and find the 200T gone...

What are MS200T's going for price wise around the country? I was at Alexander Equipment yesterday and they were asking $660.00. I thought that was high, but its been a few months since I was looking. Last time I bought one they were about $600.00. Feb of 08'.

Don't feel bad, this isn't the first post on here about this subject.
My dealer has been with stihl since the 60's and I've been going there about 35 years. He doesn't know half the new introductions that are posted on here way ahead of when his rep tells him.
He had no clue of the 440 being brought back this year, until I told him to get me a couple on order, that they should be available by June. These are some of the threads concerning the 200t replacement. It does look like they have one in the works for sometime in the future, prolly a 2012 release. My son's 200 is by far the best top handle I've ever run, it does take a carb kit every once in a while but lord it is light years of my first top handle the 009.lol Hopefully the new one will fill the needs of you full time climbers.

Sorry the links didn't work, you should be able to enter the title in search though, or maybe someone would be kind enough to fix them.

I was just at the saw store a few days ago and I am sure the tag said 579.00, plus tax of course. I thought stihl set there prices? 660.00 sounds pretty high

What saw is this?

Soooo....my apology retracted.....

Phoned my Stihl friend (the best small engine mechanic in the Cinci area) and he said he attended a seminar at the distributer, Bryan Equipment in the Winter where they were shown pictures of, as you say, the new ms201.

So, I called the distributer and they confirmed, yes the ms201 will be on the shelves this year in July or August. My friend the dealer said that production, like I said earlier, had already been ceased for the ms200....bye bye old friend.

Surprised to see your friend has been a Stihl dealer since the '60's when the first Stihl saws were not introduced into this country until the early '70's.

I bought one of the first 015's hot off the shelf on the East Coast in around 1971 and proceeded to throw all my Power Mac 6's away. The East Coast is where everything generally first appears notably NY where I bought this saw.

Do you have a pic that did not embed where you listed "Pics.....What saw is this?"

Wonder what the Stihl website rep that emailed me 2 times and denied existence of the new saw and said my info was incorrect....has to gain from such a lie?

My mistake, I apologize , I thought it was the late 60's. He had to be right there when they were first introduced in the states. I think my 030 is maybe a 70 or 71 model, would that be close?

Yeah I thought that was high too. The 'salesman' was blowin smoke. He tried spoutin off some BS about how they were an 'elite' dealer, and could knock everybodies prices into the dirt. That was the highest price Ive ever seen on one. $579.00 you say? I might just have to send your guy a money order and get 2 more before they cease to exist. I havent seen em under 6bones in 3 years.

MSRP for a 200T is $620+tax. What a dealer actually charges will vary.
