I didn't know that. I had heard that the price of a stihl chainsaw was set by stihl. They sell it to dealer for a certian price and the dealer MUST charge a certian price..not any higher OR lower. The price tags on stilh saws are all the same around here..wherever you go. In fact they look like the tags actually came from the factory with the saw.

Soooo....my apology retracted.....

Phoned my Stihl friend (the best small engine mechanic in the Cinci area) and he said he attended a seminar at the distributer, Bryan Equipment in the Winter where they were shown pictures of, as you say, the new ms201.

So, I called the distributer and they confirmed, yes the ms201 will be on the shelves this year in July or August. My friend the dealer said that production, like I said earlier, had already been ceased for the ms200....bye bye old friend.

Surprised to see your friend has been a Stihl dealer since the '60's when the first Stihl saws were not introduced into this country until the early '70's.

I bought one of the first 015's hot off the shelf on the East Coast in around 1971 and proceeded to throw all my Power Mac 6's away. The East Coast is where everything generally first appears notably NY where I bought this saw.

Do you have a pic that did not embed where you listed "Pics.....What saw is this?"

Wonder what the Stihl website rep that emailed me 2 times and denied existence of the new saw and said my info was incorrect....has to gain from such a lie?

That's false. Stihl has been in the US before the 1970's. 08s, Contras, BLKs are older than the 70's.

The ms201 is old news. It doesn't look a whole lot different that a 200t, but everything is tweaked. I believe it picked up a tiny amount of power and weight.

Do a search here for it and you will find the correct information. There are talks of it elsewhere too. Let's squash the rumors. Kinda hard to tell what it is made out of if you haven't seen it in person either.

If you want talk about a crappy looking product, take a look at the newest husky top handle. All plastic.....and cheap looking at that.

.

You are the one that is wrong. Name a Stihl dealer prior to 1970s.

Just cause there are some older than that Stihls around don't mean they were sold here. Stihl's been around a long time, here.....not so long.

Also the ms21 is hardly old news. I'd guess 99 percent of pro buying consumers have no idea about this.

Also it is not more power or (adding?) weight that is at the crux of this change, it is emissions from what I have heard.

Discussing conjecture is what forums are all about. If you think you got all the answers link em up here. My impression is Stihl is going hush on this prior to intro.

Hey gang, I figured I might be able to shine some light on this. My friends at STIHL tell me the weight of the MS 201 T (with the low-emission engine) is currently 8.4 lbs (MS 200 T is 7.9 lbs). Don't get too worried yet. I'm sure that it will be a great saw if it is to compete with the MS 200T we all love.

I think he has an "in" over there.

Isn't this the way things go with small engines, bump power so they can lower emissions? Just think what you can do with it when you do a power-port

Its old news, info has been out on it for a month or two now. I talked to mark about the new saw, the 200t's wont be selling out anytime soon, not too worry...

Treevet please stop acting like you know everything, it doesnt matter when stihl dealerships started to come around. If he said it has been there since the 60's then im sure that it has been there since the 60's... Besides who cares?

Sorry for the derail.

My dealer gives me 10 percent off everything.

thats kool but here its 8 1/2 % tax thats 51.00 and i get this too

Kiss my ascs high school boy....I have been around since the '60's. That is where I come up with my opinion. How about you....or him? I did my first tree job in '68.

Name a dealership that has sold Stihl in the '60's.....very simple.

A month or so is "old news" to a hs kid that doesn't even shave yet and likely has started a saw a handful of times and still lives with mom and dad. A month ago is not a long time to most pros in the biz for decades.

Go get your mommy to make you a samwich or something. It is time for bed for you.

"The Herbert Family has proudly sold STIHL products from their Cincinnati Store since the 1960's. We are now excited to announce that we also carry the full line-up of STIHL power equipment at our Harrison location off of I-74. If you're ready for a real tool, then you're ready for a STIHL!"

From Stihls web site...

figgered you put on your flannel jammies with the booties and went night night

after I got back from VNam and outta the Marine Corps in 1970 I was a full time top climber for a number of companies in NJ and NY until around 73 when I went on my own.

One tree company (ShearerPenn of Princeton/Trenton) probably one of the biggest companies on the east coast with maybe 40 or 50 employees had a box unit that held everyone's climbing saws, maybe 30 or 40 of them. Everyone was a Power Mac 6. Every middle saw was a blue Homelite XL and every big big saw was a Homelite Super 88 all toll maybe 30 or more saws. Nobody heard of Stihl.

I climbed for 2 Bartlett Yards and many other companies after that and.....no Stihl was ever seen. Around 72 the Poulan Super 25 DX came out and became very popular including with me.

Maybe in early 73 I saw and bought my first Stihl and the first Stihl in that shop and area...an 015. Soon after that I became best friends with the owner of a quickly growning stihl dlrship and he and I running a modded Stihl won a number of chainsaw races at a big contest at a local fairgrounds.

Later the 020 showed up and no one used the 015 anymore.

Guess the first Stihls coulda showed up in a little podunk farm implement store in the Midwest this kid is speaking of. Gonna have to look into it.

From a reliable trusted source. "Hey Shane(me), I know how you guys in the states love the 200t, well they pulled out the mold press for it today".
I would assume that if they pulled the mold press, that production of the 200T is done.
If I was a fan of the 200t and needed one anytime soon I would be getting one asap.
I'm a husky fan, so I'll wait for the new husky to come out and try that when time for a new top handle comes.

The only thang holdin me back is just maybe the ms201 is a better saw than the ms200 (given you pull out the screen in the muffler ofcourse).

Being a husky fan ill admit that the 200t is a better saw than the 338xpt...so I'm hoping the new husqvarna T540xp is better or at least equal to the new 201t.....
You would think the new husky coming out would be better than the old 200t, because you know husvarna knows the 200t is king and husky wants a better product.

Makes sense .....my loyalty is based only on performance. I will try anything out that is touted.
