They're called 'retainers' in the service manuals. But irregardless the nomenclature, they still need to be checked when you've got the case open for a new top end or a top end rebuild.

Yes, your right, I've just never heard them called that.

Anyway, I got the whole saw broken down to now need to split the case. I just tried the angle iron trick over the bar studs and a puller pushing through the angle iron on the crank, no go, it just bent the angle iron like nothing.

Any tips on splitting this case without the genuine Husky tools??

Thanks

Ok, I got er done. Just used a bigger piece of steel. Was still a pain with the cheap puller bending all over the place, going to make something better for next time.

That is one ugly connecting rod bearing. You can tap the bearings out now, no problem. Heating the case halves up a bit works well.

Yes, I agree. I figure something must have gotten into it, I checked it before assembling the saw. Should I just go ahead and replace the main bearings? They feel ok. I guess I should, but??

Dont even entertain the notion of keeping those main bearings. Pieces of the flubbed bearing will have scratched them up some and they have endured whatever caused the big end to fail. The process of taking them off the old crank and putting them on a new one will not be a good bet. Bite the bullet!

Ya, thanks guys, I knew I should, I was just being cheap. Any luck getting bearings at a bearing house, instead of going to the husky dealer and paying$$$$

They're 6202s, no problem getting them at an industrial supply.

Cool thanks Jacob, I'll phone for some tomorrow. I've got seals on order, they didn't have the left side in stock. Crank and gasket kit will be here this week. Dam I can't wait to burry this saw in some wood.

Did it fall together pretty easily? and is that the aftermarket crank?

Yes it went together way easy, I didn't even have to use long bolts, the crank tapped in all the way in the clutch side while the case and bearing was hot, then put the flywheel side on, a couple taps then the bolts would reach and I tightened it down all the way, then centered the crank. The flywheel side was a little tighter going one cause it had cooled down some I guess.
Yes that is the aftermarket crank.

Lookin' good. Did you say you heated the bearings too? You want to freeze the bearings to install them in the case.

No I heated the case halves then put in the bearings then heated the case halves again with the bearings in then put in the crank that was sitting outside in the cold.

No

Got a bunch more work done tonight, piston, cylinder, carb, tank, muffler installed, just waiting on crank seals, then put the rest of the parts on, then its done. And keeping my fingers and toes crossed that it doesn't blow up again.
