Just bought another 3400 tonight and will take the chain brake assembly. Can you get a price on it (any any others that might be available)?

POULAN 3400 Countervibe

POULAN 3400 Countervibe saw. What is this puppy worth in fair condition with a b/c to flip. I might buy one just to try it out and see if I like it. The saw needs a bit of cleaning up and maybe a little fuel system work. Thanks

I wouldn't sell any of my good runners for less than 150. BUT, that's just me because I like them so much. They usually sell for less than that, 50-100.There's sort of a collective joe homeowner amnesia about older mag cased poulans and modern plastic ones, they don't remember or never knew about the difference. So you have a hard time selling them for what a pro 50-60 cc saw goes for. Good if you want one for yourself, just grab 'em cheap and keep them, bad to resell. I mean you see it all the time on CL swap ads, "no poulans" people think only huskys or stihls are any good.

Take the oiler assembly out and clean that up real good and make some new foam crud keeper outers. You'll see where they go. and you can thin the bar oil with a little diesel and run it to clean that oiler system out, after rinsing the tank out good. You can still buy the quad ring O ring or the manual plunger if you need that (both auto and manual oilers, another plus). the oiler assembly is binary, works or doesn't, ain't no new ones available anymore.

Some of these guys are slipping. I got a NOS 4000 cylinder for $34.99 w/free shipping. Had been on there for a few days before I saw it.

I been slipping for some time Steve.:dizzy: I do have a bid on one item. Its to "Fugly" looking to go on most of you guys saws, but will look good on one of mine. :ices_rofl: 30" Poulan bar. Been wanting one of those ever since I got my 5200 together. Guess I'll have to paint her up and get the new decals on it, so it looks respectable for the next GTG.:)

I'll take a stab at that question, and just my opinion. I would say $50-75 at the bottom end, $100-150 at the top end. Like anything else, condition means a lot. No matter what, you can count on doing carb rebuild, fuel lines & filter. Probably air filter too. Most of them rarely get their drive sprockets changed over the years also. The compression on the 3400 is usually lower than what most guys are accustomed to also. Rarely see one over 135 lbs. or so. Most 3700 & 4000's will be a little higher. Both compression & price.:D

Gregg,

I'm actually getting afraid to sell a Poulan auction style on ebay because of the low prices Poulan typically gets. I hate to put a bunch of money into fixing up a Poulan only to sell at a loss. If I sell any more I'll either start the bidding at what I have in it or do the buy it now thing. Poulans should be your wood cutting saws, sell the Huskys and Stihls to make money...

I always start a saw on eBay at my lowest Ill take. It cost no more with free listings. I am pleasantly surprised at how well that's working for me right now... I'm not selling a poulan, but look at the completed listings for saws and see what they brought on bids and what someone jumped on for a high initial bid, or a buy it now. Some are pretty decent prices for the seller.

Usually, on a Poulan, if you start the bid over $25 it takes forever to get that first bid, then the snipers take over. When that happens I rarely get over $50 or so for a good saw.

Gregg,

Wish you hadn't told me about that one, Gregg. :( Been wanting one of those. Good news for you is, I'm broke. Bought another big saw couple days ago. One like you been wanting. Haven't got it yet. We'll see how that turns out.

I hear ya Steve. Broke is my middle name.:( Been along time since I even did any window shopping for saw stuff. Was checking out Bob's 3700 bow saw, and just started browsing, and came across the bar I been wanting for some time.

There are 3 saws I would still like to get, at least in the Poulan line. So you must have found a 8500, 7700, or 655bp. LOL But then I know you have one of each of those all ready. So must be a nice one.:D The only other saw I would possibly want, would be a 372xp. For a work saw, to take the load off my beloved Poulans. ;)

Gregg,

Agree Gregg. Lately $150 would be very high unless its pristine for a 3400. Lot of 3400's on Ebay right now. Curious to see what they go for.

I've put several saws on my "watch list" just to see what they go for. Poulans and 10-10 saws go for far cheaper than they should. Echo, Stihl, and Husky are the main sellers. I always check the list before I sell one but sometimes I get a little more than average for whatever reason. Sometimes Homies are cheap and sometimes not, I haven't got a handle on that one yet.
I always get some flak for this but I think ebay should be handled more like a regular auction, when someone bids in the last minute ebay should extend the auction another five minutes or so to allow another bid to come in, making the seller and ebay a little more money, just like a regular auction.

I have to say as a buyer I like ebay just the way it is. I have won auctions buy just putting in my top bid ahead of time or by snipping at the end. I like having the option.
