Makes sense. How do remove the piston? Guess I've been doing it wrong or pressing the envelope. Never had a problem though.

I make a 'support bed' for the piston out of a block of wood and press them out with a hydraulic shop press. You have to make sure that the piston is supported evenly by the block.....unless you don't care about busting the old piston. Also need to take care and have a 'feel' for how much force is being applied to move that pin. If it is taking too much to budge it, then something's not aligned or supported right.
It helps to have someone else holding the crankcase (if the crank and rod aren't removed from the cases) while you do this. When 'helper-less', I've had to use a stool and whatever was handy to rig up a support for the crankcase while I keep everything lined up and operate the press. I haven't heated up the rod end for removal. Just for reassembly.
Would somebody please post a link to the thread(s) with Mark's pin pusher setup? I couldn't find it in a quick search.....
