Makes sense. How do remove the piston? Guess I've been doing it wrong or pressing the envelope. Never had a problem though.
Bob

I make a 'support bed' for the piston out of a block of wood and press them out with a hydraulic shop press. You have to make sure that the piston is supported evenly by the block.....unless you don't care about busting the old piston. Also need to take care and have a 'feel' for how much force is being applied to move that pin. If it is taking too much to budge it, then something's not aligned or supported right.

It helps to have someone else holding the crankcase (if the crank and rod aren't removed from the cases) while you do this. When 'helper-less', I've had to use a stool and whatever was handy to rig up a support for the crankcase while I keep everything lined up and operate the press. I haven't heated up the rod end for removal. Just for reassembly.

Would somebody please post a link to the thread(s) with Mark's pin pusher setup? I couldn't find it in a quick search.....

About 3-4 years ago, one of the Poulan piston tools appeared on EBay. I snagged it real quickly.
Only to find out later, that it didn't have the bushing, (adapter) to fit the pin, and push it out. Nik,(Fatguy) the fabulously swell guy he is  made me one. He also made one to fit the bearing also.

I havn't had the opportunity to use it since, unfortunately. But should work great! At least you can see what they are suppose to look like. I tried making one once. That didn't turn out so well, it worked, but ended up in the trash.

Here is one on the left, I tried to make once. Didn't work so good. Mark made one similar I believe, that worked pretty well.

what was the problem with yours? looks like it shudda worked

To start with, I should have used a larger dia. piece of exh. pipe. Was what I had available. The real tools upright handle, support, would have been nice to have also. I had trouble keeping things lined up and doing what its suppose to.:msp_mad: The piece that Nik made, that fits inside the pin and catches the shoulder, would have great too. The bolt I used wasn't quite the right size, and a little soft I think.

I used it once and tossed it. It worked, but not well. I think with some effort, and the right stuff, a person could make one closer to the original tool.

Gregg,

That's it! tThe one with the handle! You can still buy them, hundred bucks then the bushings, still in the poulan system, at least for dealers. I checked today in town at the dealers. I borrowed the factory one from them (I buy up their used junk and they know I am "income challenged" so they cut me some slack) and pushed the pin out easey peasey. Piece of beefy round bar stock for the handle, threaded, all thread chunk through that, big nut welded on the back (9/16ths), and that loop of sheet steel to hold the piston with a big hole in the back side for the pin to exit. Works a charm, looks to be fairly easy to make if you have a drill and tap set.

Anybody here have the National, CR, SKF, Timken, or any other aftermarket # for the 530019051 crankshaft seal that's used in the XXV saws? I know they're still available from Poulan and Sears, but I'm going to be getting a bunch of other seals from my local bearing house and would like to get some XXV seals there while I'm at it. I doubt I'll be able to keep the original seals in good shape (to take to the bearing house) when I pull them. Those seals are TINY. Worst case, I can measure the shaft dia, bore dia, and bore depth and bring those numbers with me. It'd sure be nice to be able to just give the guy a number to look up instead though. IIRC Brad S listed some numbers for these seals ages ago. He never answered my PM's asking for the #'s, and I just wasted an hour of searching for his old post that has the #'s in it (without success)...:(

Check this one by Brad and Mark. CR seal # there

That's it! Thanks Tim. Now why the H didn't I find those posts during my searching? Don't answer that......:msp_confused:

I'm having the same trouble finding the seal numbers and the link back to this Poulan thread sends me to the last page, probably based on my threads per page setting.

Any help in finding the generic seal numbers for the 25da?

Poulan Piston Pin tool

Just Google Poulan part # 530031069 and you'll find several sites that sell them. No pictures but prices range from $55.00 to $65.00. Would check to see if bushings are included, however.
