Ive also been coming across way to many of these saws, I just cant pass them up people just give them away! The one on the end to the right is a 365 in 330 clothes:msp_biggrin:View attachment 261892

You have got to be kidding me.... What do I have that you want to trade for that 365? Don't you need something that came from pa?

I love it too, and the best part is that the p/c are brand new. The previous owner was running it and the c-clip that holds the wrist pin fell out of the piston and scored the cylinder pretty bad so he waited and finally found another cylinder and threw it all back together and then didnt even run one tank of gas through it! its not even broken in yet. Im not entirely sure if Im ready to let go because I only just got it. but that all depends on what your willing to trade I suppose:D
 
A spur sprocket is when the clutch drum and sprocket are one piece.

A rim is when the drum has a place for a sprocket to slide on and off and is referred to as a rim.

So change the sprocket on a spur you have to change out the clutch drum because it is part of the sprocket.

To change out a sprocket on a rim you just slide the rim off and slide another on.





Not on an S25 they have an outboard clutch and the whole thing has to come off to get the rim off.
The rim is cheaper than a whole spur sprocket though.

So I got pretty lucky at my favorite swap meet last weekend, picked up a micro, an s25, three 3.3 craftsmans, a 3700 and a 6900! oh and a partner farmer..:laugh: Obviously the first one I got running was the 6900, it needed more cleaning then actual work. I put a new fuel line and filter on and cleaned up the bar and threw away the rotted chain and away she went. I dont know if you can tell from the picture how bad it was, but I had to chisel the chain out of the bar groove on the bottom of the bar. I set it next to my 5200 and you can really tell the difference in the design of the case, the 6900 is longer then the 5200. Ill post some more pictures when I get them all cleaned up.

That is a heck of a hual!

A hual like that would have made my year!
 
I really hope for a 4900.I was really lucky for I found it.The only issues,according to the seller,are the starter pulley and the fuel system.The piston/cylinder are very good.
 
So I'll try to understand one more time before I give up for now.
So the drum sprocket that takes a rim is different from a sprocket with no rim?
Is there a simple yes or no?

Larry, I think that you're stuck on "drum sprocket," and in my mind "drum sprocket" means spur rocket. If "drum sprocket" is what the dealer is telling you, get them to clarify which which type of sprocket they actually mean.

The drum is the part that fits over the clutch.

The actual sprocket comes in two forms, spur and rim.

The spur sprocket is one piece (teeth built onto the drum). When the teeth get worn the entire piece needs to be replaced.

The rim sprocket is two pieces. The rim is removeable, it can be replaced without replacing the drum.

Someone posted photos showing the difference between the two types of sprockets. Please take a good look at them (and you can also find plenty of images of the two types of sprockets on the internet).
 
Poulan 4200/5200 tank fitting

Who recalls what the thread size is for the fitting that reduces the fuel line between the carb and the fuel tank. I believe its 5/16x18 but before I tap the tank I want to be sure. Tried to start my 4200 but it won't start w/o pouring fuel in the carb. Addditionally I'm getting a small leak around the tank openning so I want to replace the line and use a smaller line in the tank and a larger one to the carb. I believe its the filter and not the carb so I'll start there.

I could use two of those as well (especially at the prices marked on those packages). They're still available from Poulan parts outlets for around $11-$12 plus shipping............at least for a while.

Yes that is a 1980's price for sure, i need to check the part #'s for lot's of stuff in the bins that may be good finds. Not sure what i am looking at. There are lots of covers etc for Poulan/Poulan Pro etc. i will post here for 1st dibs.
 
I agree you still have to pull the clutch drum to get to the rim but once it is off you just slide the rim off and put on a new one.

Isn't that what you have to do to all of them?

There is no difference changing the rim on a rim sprocket on an outboard clutch and changing a spur sprocket on an outboard clutch.......................................except $15.00- $18.00 that I've found.
Is there something new that I've not seen???

The only thing missing is I never said that the drum did not have to be removed on a outboard clutch to change a rim. That is not what I meant in my explanation. I just meant that a spur is part of the clutch drum and a rim is not.
