Actually they show up with a bit of regularity foe the 4200 and 5200 on eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-Bay here. You just have to dig DEEP to get one.
The ones for the 8500 style saws are a bit harder to find.

Mike

Thanks Mike.I'll keep my eyes on ebay.I'll try Mark's trick for now.

A big thanks to member Thomas1 for hooking me up with these Poulans. They are both super clean. I think I'm going to do some mild port work to the 305, but the Crapsman will be balls out when it's done.

The parts saw has a wider top cover... any ideas what it may be? 3500/3600? I did the quick popsicle stick bore measure and it came close to 50mm.
All have perfect top ends.

Awesome. I love these. Post pics of porting one. I want to see an open port job.

Will do. I plan on using a different top end on the Craftsman. I didn't look too close yet, but I hear most of the Craftsman were aluminum jugs with a chrome piston. It has 2 thick rings, the 305 is 2 thin rings with a plated bore, a much better design.

I might make the Craftsman into a pipe saw. It would be a fun GTG saw.

You will like those. Just what a good saw should be.

Thanks Joe. Mark brought a 3000 over a few weeks ago. After a few minutes of running it... I was in love. Not to mention, they are a darn fine looking saw.

Oh sure, its all my fault! :ices_rofl:

Thats ok, pile on I got broad shoulders.

The wide cover one is for sure a 60cc version. I'll keep my eye open for a top for the Craftsman but I think PP335 P/C can still be had and might be a good way to go. What is the bore dia on it now?

In truth Ed it isn't really all that much better of a design.
The number of 3400's still cutting wood after all these years is an undeniable testament to that.
I put a plain bore 3300 top end on a PP 305 case and it is a GREAT saw!
Super compression, plenty of power for a firewood saw, and a nice handling saw too!
Every time I run it I want to go out and spank a few 026's.
I do intend to apply one of wigglesworth's secrets to the intake area though.

I don't mind you folks desiring the chrome bore one bit though.
I'll take all of the plain bore top ends you want to part with.

With the popsicle stick I came up with 44mm. Does that sound right? What is the bore/stroke on the 305?
Do you have any specs on the 305, 335 and such? Bore/stroke info.

Yes it could be, the 3000 and 305 used a 44mm plated bore far as I know for 49cc and as you can see the Craftsman version was unplated.

They all use the same 32mm stroke crank. The 3300 and 335 both use a 46mm bore with the 335 being a plated bore.

My list shows the 60cc saws being a 49mm bore.

I'm just glad everything arrived intact and that you're putting them to good use.

Craftsman muffmod.

Well I have this 475 I bought awhile back and decided to get it out and play with it. I checked the compression and found 160 psi but it started getting real hard to crank over. Long story short looks like the cranks bearing could be going bad. They are real rough when turning it by hand.

So then I got my 3700 out to do some work on it and got it running and decided to tear it down and do a good cleaning and noticed the crank bearing are super loose. The crank is moving up and down on both ends with all kinds of slop.

So since I have no bearing for those saws the only thing left was to do a muff mod on my Craftsman. Even they need a little love too.

Poulan pro throwing fits!

Messing with this saw for a friend of mine. It was barely used but sat dry for some years until currently. Its tough to start and then it will run good when you squeeze the trigger at WOT. It will bog down initially and sometimes shut off. Then it wont idle worth a damn. I tried messing with the throttle/idle to no change in performance. It ran best when I called it a night and drained the fuel out of it to run it dry, I left the gas cap off. Not sure if its cause it leaned out or maybe the gas cap vent is plugged. Any idea's? P.S fuel lines are all intact and i dont have a carb tool to adjust the H L jets the moment.

Good job Roger, I like that double barrel look. Bet it sounds different now. :hmm3grin2orange:

Too bad in the crank brgs on the other two. Both are pretty easy to do though.

Yep have the bearings on order for both saws. We will see how it turns out.
I have never had to split a case on a 475 or a 3700 yet so it will be a good experience for me.

Is that a 295 you have there?

You will need a carb tool and adjust those jets. No since in doing anything else until you get that.
