I need to find your auto parts store. Smallest amounts I've seen are 1 quart.
Bob

See if you can find someone that's chummy with a local body shop. Paint it getting to be like plutonium to buy, but if you know someone who mixes, it can happen pretty easily. I don't have access to that stuff anymore, but I'll look into it with a friend.

I hit a double today, that's right, NOS Poulan suspenders.:rock::rock:

I have one that is exactly like that with no markings and it is a 3800. They made both that looked identical. Mine is a 358.356091 and lists as a 3800 acording to the ipl. They made a pile of these as I have run into a few more in my limited travels through cad in the last short, but missing year of my life...lol

The saw I bought has a manual oiler. Looks on the Acres site like the 3400 and 3700 have only the auto oiler, but the 3800 has automatic with a manual override. Does this mean my saw is the 3800, not the 3400? I guess it's got both the manual and auto oiler - none of this series came with just the manual oiler, did they?

They all came with both an automatic and manual.

You mean they have trees in Northern MI besides those 12" dia worthless white pines? Oh yeah, sorry I forgot, you HAVE to have a Stihl or Husky to cut those things up. :givebeer:

all the saws in that series have auto and manual override oilers.

Gregg, it isn't the 1970 Dodge sublime FJ-5 is it? It also comes in the PLymouth version called limelight. If you recall what you were looking at let me know as I'm thiniking about doing some restoring as well.
Bob

Bob,

The Sublime was 1970 color for both Dodge and Plymouth.
Limelite was 1971's color and it is much lighter in color.
The 1970 color is the one we want.

Mike

Air filter looked ok. You very well may be right. I didn't really know what to look for as this was my first tear down of an ole reed valve saw like this. I thought the same as you when I saw those wore spots on the plating. The only place I could be remember seeing pics of plating like that was on smoked concrete saws.

I got to do some digging out parts today, let me look to see if I have a servicable cyl laying around. If not Randy said he might have one as well.

If I get time, I will try to scan a set of 306/245 gaskets today and post them up.

That old saw can live again, no problem.

I dont know what inside stuff you guys got going on, not sure I want to know but have to ask, did you catch Jim with your ole lady or something? Otherwise, why the traiter stuff going on here in the Poulan thread?

Jim got a nice thing going on here with those, the Micro is a dime a dozen but I haint never seen me none of those spenders before!

Wish he found two sets...

Bob, Here, I found the post that Brad made about the paint codes for what he had made at Ace. Its another option to the automotive paint. Mike hit the nail on the head. The Mopar code is J5 for the 1970 sublime green. Limelight was different and not close to the Poulan green.

Was curious as well, what you guys think of this paint match? Found on ebay. Looks like it might fly as well. Just hate to be the guinea pig. :msp_biggrin:

Gregg,
Gregg, that looks close. Let me see what I can get it for tomorrow. I may be able to get a sample to let you guys check it out. Paint has gone crazy lately. The last quart of base I bought a few months ago was 167 bucks. I almost threw up in my mouth. Acrylic enamel will work fine and is fairly robust and durable, just not as good at keeping a shine. I kinda doubt you'll be using this as a truck saw though...lol

Gregg,

Gregg, I could just pick you up a 1/2 pint at my auto parts and send it to you. Be lots cheaper then that.

LOL, Your probably right Mark. I was just exploring the possibility's out there. :) I won't be ready for paint, for quite awhile yet. On another note, I think I have a 5200 P/C headed my way.
Gonna check it out when it gets here, and will be sending something in return as a trade, no money involved. Waiting anxiously!

Gregg,

Bad Idea Gregg,

As soon as you get it all painted up some idiot will hit your saw with his car door and BAM, scratched and dent in your starter.
