been watching one of these online the price is up to 83 plus shipping.... neat looking version of the poulan micro series..... whats the most ya all would spend for one of these that runs with new bar and chain???? how rare are they??? i have not seen alot of them....

They're really not that rare, Paul. But based on the ones I've seen you won't find one in better cosmetic condition than that and the current price is not that bad but still has several hours to go and with 22 bids currently, it's subject to go higher.

I wouldnt pay what they bring most of the time, in fact I dont even want one very bad. I would just as soon have a 2300CVA.

I guess I wouldnt mind having one to rub in the nose of some Husky fanatic when he is bashing a Poulan though. LOL

yep

we only have a few of these left...

When I was traveling to Cadillac and Fife Lake MI for 2 chainsaw racing events one weekend. I was surprised at all the small trees in rows on the drive up. All I seen was 12" under trees it seems.
Heck even the logging trucks coming through the parade up there in Cadillac was loaded with pecker poles as people call them for those size trees.

Is this the one you got from ptjeep? Not too long after he sent the 8500 your way, he got a smoked 5400 that I wish I would have gotten now, but it went to a good home at Guidosalvage.

It is in fact the same. Before I even got it from him after we made the deal I found a frankensaw 8500/5400 mix with a good top end and bought it for parts. After all the work on this one though I decided to use a new top end that I have been sitting on for a long time, waiting for the right saw to put it on.

Finally decided, that if this isnt the right saw there never will be.

A 5400 is one that has escaped my grasp so far...

Same here. I've got almost as many rebadged Poulans as green (and PP yellow) ones.........and will doubtless get more. Part of my draw to them comes from my experience working for Sears and working on/with rebadged Poulans. The bulk of my rebadged Poulans are Craftsman red.......with a couple Dayton orange saws thrown in for color. I've even sold good running green Poulans to fund the rebuild of my rebadged versions. Is that nuts???:dizzy:

Over the decades no other brand of saws was 'rebranded' even half as much as Poulan. Tractor manufacturers, hardware store chains, and even department store chains used 'made to order' Poulans to flesh out their product lines. That says something right there.:msp_thumbup:

Still wish I could find one just like this one. I'm picky when it comes to signs, I only like the ones with saws on them.

Depending upon the stage of CAD you're at, it's either a feeble attempt to control it early on or later, a full blown uncontrolled level of CAD.
Thankfully, either condition is a good stage to be at.

It's ALIVE!

Hi all,

Finally got the crank case gasket in for my Poulan 20 project. Got everything buttoned up today and fired the saw up. The starter rope broke in the middle of it all so I had the opportunity to pull the flywheel again......

The saw seems to run really strong given it's age. It seems to be a bit rich at WOT, it doesn't really clean up in the cut. It feels like it has lots of torque for its size. I ended up making my own cylinder gasket, so I dropped the cylinder 0.010" or so below stock. I went with a 0.010" thick gasket. I am glad I didn't mess with grinding the jug at all. It seems just fine the way it is. I just need to find something to cut up now!

Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
