Soooo.... I'm just over a yearling when it comes to "the poulan life" and I have a few saws I need to rip into. One is an s25da that will be a bday present for my dad. It was one of his first saws and i think im gonna do a full resto behind his back. I was thinking about starting a thread with part numbers for saws with nla consumables such as bearings and seals. It would be great to have some standard #s so we can run to the bearing house and order them up. i have a sleave of about every bearing husky uses and i always get them for about a buck a piece on the bay. makes me wonder what else i can get for a deal. Some of the guys here have been compiling gasket patterns, and they got me thinking about this. We could at least put a list together for poulans. I'd be glad to compile the info and put it all in the first posts of a dedicated thread. What do you think..? Maybe someone already did this, but I can't even find it for the 25da.

S25 seals,,, SKF5510, brgs Torrington BH-98.

Good idea I give you the first ones, get-er-done!

It would be nice to have a stickie embedded under the Poulan stickie for spike, gasket patterns and alternate bearing and seal numbers for the various saws. I was kicking my self after I shipped a bunch of gaskets for the 306 and 4200 to Kostas and did not take any tracings of the gaskets. I keep a list if I see anything come up in a file on my computer. Mark was good enough to post the gaskets up for the 3400 series saws which are very common saws here.
Thanks Mark for doing that. I have started to do that when I get gaskets now or a spike.
The trouble is that all this good work gets lost in a huge stickie that's not easily searched.

I did take the idea of a gasket 'library' a couple weeks ago and set up something on mediafire.com. At the time, a few folks thought it a good idea. If you guys want to proceed, I'll send PMs out to some members here to test it out.

I've nothing against having a stickie here, it's just that threads sometimes turn into BS sessions. This can torpedo the intent of the thread. If it is clearly known that it is a library only meant to store information to benefit all, it might just succeed.

Just let me know if you think the library stored at mediafire.com is a good idea and I'll continue to refine that.

Cheers!

Ted, let me in, I did a couple more sets since that first one.

Yeah Ted... That's a fantastic idea and I was hoping it would still happen. I have been big into Volkswagons my whole life and have way more hours on the vdub forums than my wife cares to think about..... One them its the same deal... Everyone bull craps more than ever and info is gone forever. Then one guy takes it upon himself to compile it all and post it all up before anyone can get a post in and crap it up. I'd be glad to do that and list by saw # and then any pertinent info we would want to include listed under the first post. I can't do the media fire thing for gaskets because my ipad (my only computer) resizes everything, but we can post the link to it in the beginning of the thread and continue to build on it on mediafire as we get more info for Ted.

I love the Internet for the info it provides and hate it for the same thing...lol. If we can put together some factual stuff instead of a smart sounding guess, I'm willing to do my part. You guys are the ones that did all the work sourcing the info.

I think that would be a fantastic idea! Maybe it could be catalogued by saw family. Is there any way it could be configured so you don't have to upload all the sruff?

I looked for Mark's gasket tracing post (PDF's) which I have on my computer, but could not find it again. More good info that would have been lost to me if I hadn't down loaded them.
I tried to send some rep your way Ted for taking that ball and running with it and to Mark for the gasket tracings but it said I had to spread it around. What's with that? I promise, I'm not in love with you guys in a biblical way. Maybe we could have plain thank you rep we could spread round.
My perfect wife bought me a couple of chains, fuel line and a maul, gave me some money for saw parts for Christmas. She also bought me a gasket punch set which she couldn't find as she can't remember where she hid it. Truly a Roberts geezer family moment. Hope it turns up.

Kris, I just sent Mark the link.

I hate that resizing thing. To a lesser extent, many computer users experience the same thing with their displays. For that reason, I try to put all my scans/tracings on 1/4" graph paper. If the person printing it knows that, they can monkey around with the sizing settings at their end.

My intent is for the library to be built by the membership. Upload your content and use the naming scheme outlined. Simple. The only requirement is that you must join mediafire to be able to upload.

Aaron, here is a picture of the original Poulan bar from my 71-A which uses the same bar as the ones you listed.

Here is a D176 laid on top of it.

Here is the original Poulan mount that was used before Poulan went to other brand bars laid on top of it.

Here is one of the so called universal bars laid on top of it. This 21" roller nose bar came off a Mono saw and you can see the oiler holes needed a touch of grinding on them and I think I drilled the two front adjuster holes in it as well.

Thanks a bunch Mark. That OEM Poulan bar tail looks very close to a large frame Homelite mount (Oregon F014), but with the adjuster holes square (instead of round) and the oiler holes being larger and moved slightly inboard.

Yeah I think there very close, the adjuster pins dont care if they go into round or square holes.
