Thanks for kind comments and especially for the 245SA verification.

I sweated that auction. I kept expecting a surge of late bids, but for some reason it remained a sleeper. Now I just hope that there aren't issues that I missed; only two views of the saw, combined into one photo, might be a red flag for some.

Now to find a 4400 for a good price :msp_ohmy: :bang:.

3400 & 3700

Has anyone found a replacement for crank seals on these models of chainsaws. I looked in the search here on AS but information was all over the place . I have a couple of these saws when you flip them on there side they try to die out.

Those are no problem, but I don't have that info with me right now. Im sure someone will be by shortly with it.

Mark helped me whip this little fella into shape over the weekend. Of course, the top AV mount was broken but we used a Stihl 066 mount I kept as an old spare. We gave it the usual fuel line treatment and not much else. I kind of like it and my brother was eyeballing the other day, as well. He's going to have to find something else to covet. Maybe a little Homelite XL.

According to UPS tracking, my Dayton 2Z463B has gone out for delivery today. Seller says it's a Poulan 306A, my research here at AS & at CSCC shows Poulan 245SA.

Dayton Chainsaw Model 2Z463B with 20" Bar and Chain | eBay

Am I correct when I see the 306A has a lower profile AF & top cover than the 245SA?

So you're the lucky guy. Now I don't feel so bad about forgetting to go back and bid (or set up a snipe). Glad a guy here got it instead of some feebay saw dismantler. I'd made a token "keeping track of the auction without using a watch list spot" bid when I first saw the listing (and the 306A description mistake) a week prior. Forgot to go back and get serious on it (and was pissed at myself when I got the 'sorry you didn't win' email). You're welcome Chris.:msp_thumbup:

Keep us posted on the saw. Looked like a nice late production Dayton badged 245SA (with the 'button' type decomp valve above the muffler) in the auction pics. Was easy to tell that it was a 245 variant rather than a 306 as described because of the taller fuel tank top and AF cover. Mark also pointed out in another thread (where we were discussing your saw) that the handlebars are taller on 245 variants too. At least one other AS member didn't bid because of the inaccurate description. He was miffed (at being 'fooled')........and will not make that mistake again methinks.:D

Those are great little saws . I've had some luck cleaning the metal part of the buffer, then using Gorilla glue . Seems to hold well, but real test will come after a couple uses.

You are gonna like that saw!

5200

And here it is. Picked it up today and the owner even fired it up for me in 14* tempurature. Its had some use but its in pretty good shape. has very good compression. Its got a few ahead of it right now but it will fit in nicely. The old school 20" Oregon bar is in good shape and the air filter looks almost new.
As an aside I talked to my good buddy Mike (mopar) tonight where we discussed saws and the problems of the world. We just about got it worked out.

I kinda figgered you were getting a 5200 when you used the term 'muscle' to tease us the other day.

Nice saw, Joe!

Let us know how that works out!

That 066 mount was not a easy swap really, took some refabricating and was lucky to find a metric allan screw long enough to work on it. BUT it did work.

(really tough for me to put a Sthil part on it)

There she is! Runs pretty damn good. Oddly enough the chain is like brand new.

You done pretty damn good there yourself! You will like that one.

So you going to give a hint to when Washington DC gets blown up?

Seriously, I'm glad you got a 5200 now, your going to get to feel some real power now! You need a bigger bar for it and you will now find yourself looking for bigger trees and a reason to use it.

Looks like a pretty good one!
