Glenn Fiddich

I am drinking some fine 18 year old Glenn Fiddoch (little celebration) as I read this thread. If I was closer I'd argue the merits of 3/8" and .325" too, but I fear it would only be the liquor talking. Love the banter though.:msp_biggrin:

here you go, i think the mirror is older than what you are drinking. View attachment 277480

Jameson

That's exactly what this one is doing Mark. Runs fine for about 30 seconds......then it won't run unless the choke is in the 'half cock' almost closed detent............and the next minute it's running so rich that it will continue to run with the H needle almost completely closed with no change (like as if the needle/seat isn't seating or the metering lever is set super high).......and then won't restart without the choke back at that same almost-closed detent...:bang:

Dangit I just rebuilt this carb. Set the lever right, replaced the screens, had it in the bath in the USC for a WEEK while I waited for the kit to come in (giving it many cycles anytime I was in the shop). Boot looks good. Crank seals are fine. Impulse hose is new. Sealed up the jug with Threebond 1194 when I replaced the ring (for $3 why not?) and eliminated the base gasket (and did a muffler mod while I was waiting for backordered AV buffers and other bits). Squish measured out at .030" without the gasket. I need to make up blockoff plates for this saw so I can do a pres/vac test. I'd be surprised if I actually have a vac leak here though. Thinking I need to order a carb.

More waiting. The damn parts I'd ordered took six weeks to get here (and they canceled the boot and shorter 3500 spike as they were suddenly 'NLA' supposedly). I HATE ordering from places that deal with third party drop shippers. Will reorder the spike somewhere else, and will probably get a boot (and the carb) at the same time. I really wanted to change out the boot while I had the saw apart, as I didn't really enjoy putting it back together. Not a fan of that boot setup or the kill switch wires/impulse hose routing....

I put a .325 pitch rim on this saw (7 pin for now....may try an 8 pin someday). Modified a Husqvarna branded 20" K095 mount .325 pitch Powermatch for it (cut the oil channels from the adjuster holes to the groove and filed the stud slot a scosh as it was TIGHT on the studs). Oils great. Put on a loop of 21BPX (or whatever # the .058G BPX chain is). This will be a limbing and larger bucket saw for me. My first use of .325 pitch chain on any of my larger than 41cc saws. Got plenty of other saws to grab for felling and bucking. Biggest stuff this saw will see much of will be 18" or less oak, madrone, doug fir, or maple. Mostly it'll be cutting much smaller wood.

Oh and Allan.........................some Jameson for me tonight (was a 'thank you' gift from a friend for fixing his Browning A-5). Thinking about a cigar......but it's too close to bedtime for that...

here is a Jameson mirror i have also

530027184

Thanks my friend! Will PM in a sec. The 530027184 still shows up as being available on a few sites (including the site sponsor that later 'canceled' that part along with a couple others that are still listed elsewhere such as the PP330 intake boot). A month and a half ago when I ordered that spike and other parts, it was still listed on the more popular Poulan parts sites, but they now show it as being NLA. I wonder if the places that still show it as being available really have them....................or if they're like the folks I placed my order with and they'll be saying "sorry, it's no longer availble" several weeks after the order....

I will for sure try the 8 pin rim on my PP330. I went with the 7 pin simply because the 20" bar is what came to me in a trade and I wanted to be sure that the saw would pull it if I had to 'burry the bar'. If it'll run that 20" bar with authority (when 'burried') with the .325-8 rim I will be very impressed. Will try it out sometime after I get this misbehaving saw sorted out and get some hours on that new ring.

Thanks again for your helpful input guys.

Why not put double spikes on that 330? I *lightly* modified a set of Husqvarna spikes (slotted one hole for the case mounting and shortened and then drilled one hole for bar studs) and it works great. Mark has the pattern from my saw and it only takes 10 min tops.

Aaron, here is the post I was referring to

This is what they look like, go to page 1484 and Mark has posted a PDF template of the dogs

Thanks guys. That does look good and I remember Mark's post (and have that PDF saved). I don't have a spare set of 272 spikes (in fact I don't even have an outer for my 272XP yet) and have already spent enough $$$ on parts and such for this P330 (and will be spending another $30 plus on a carb it seems). Was hoping to have the 'goofy spike' situation solved with the $4-ish short 3500 spike that I'd ordered along with the other parts (of course that ended up not working out). I'm very grateful that Gary sent me the PP365 spike today. If I buy a $30 set of Pro Safety 272XP spikes they're going on my 272XP (unless I REALLY fall in love with this PP330 when it's finally squared away).:D

That's your listing? I had it in my watch list as my 'backup plan'..................but was counting on the one I'd ordered actually showing up. So much for accurate inventory numbers on the online sites....:(

If another one of these saws lands at my feet soon (the PP330 was an unexpected CL score) then I'll probably grab that spike. Not sure enough that I'll be getting another saw in this series yet (we'll see how I feel once this one's finally running right) to want to buy your spike 'just in case' right now however....

Well it's official, I own another PP325 now.

2nd one I have had and this one is a 1 owner huh make that 2 owner now ;D . Ended up with way to much in it, but I am one not to let saws like these slip away.

Just taking a quick look I cant see nothing wrong with that rear handle AV. Guess I will know more when I cut that tie strap off and look closer.

Now comes time for the decision making.
