Cut a couple times now with the 3.4 and 3.7, and I am havin fun. Noticed the new air filters fill up quick, and not sure about how well they seal. Couple questions/solutions I am pondering:

1. Thin foam prefilter (easier to clean than the flocking)?
2. A little filter grease around the base edge?
3. Slotted covers....or does that just add more stuff?
4. Any other ideas?
5. Sharp chain, and clean often?:smile2:

I have my brother checking out a 4000 in Northern Ohio for me. This stuff never ends does it.

Thanks

I would say #5 is a good bet. I ran them for years. I would take the filter off at refueling time, and brush it off with a soft bristled brush i keep in my 'possibles" box. Then when in the shop, clean em with air before next use.

Somebody gave me grief once, saying it was stupid to clean the filter at every refueling! Geez, it don't take more than a minute to do. I have never used any grease or vasoline or anything on them. Just seemed to me that would make a big mess. :dizzy:

No longer than it takes to clean one, I'm usually ready to sit down and take a break before I can run a tank full through them anyway. :( (geezer)

Gregg,

Here are the caps and sock hats. Like I said I didnt set out to get the sock hats but there pretty nice.

Nice! My boys call me condom-head when I wear one of those sock hats. Here we call them beanies.

Not sure how or why, but we call em toboggan's, or just boggan's in this end of the country. :confused2:

Yep, Was thinking that too. When I lived back east, in Ct. they called them toboggans, or just stocking caps. So I guess sock hat would be the correct Hoosier redneck term.
I do like Al's head condom though..LOL

Gregg,
We called them stocking caps growing up and now I switched my kiddies over to beanies. We never had any as grand as these though!

Gregg,

Stocking cap ? That's what we called the pink ones that the women wore. :ices_rofl:The men wore sock hats.

Poulan cylinder/piston ass. interchange?????????

I've got a couple of 6900's that I'm going through. One needs a cylinder/piston. Would the Fatguy or Modified Mark have what I'm looking for? Also the 4200 and 6900 share the same bore and stroke. Has anyone done this interchange? Thanks, TG

I would say everyone here would love two have a couple P&C sets of that series, but they are pretty rare unfortunately. Good luck with the search.

not sure but partstree says they still have the piston and rings for the 6900, they may need to update their database. though.

Yes I do have a P/C for one, but they have been rat holed for some time, just waiting for something that needs it for my collection.

Sorry, but I collect Poulans and its hard to me to let go of hard to find Poulan parts.

I have been looking for a 6900 for sometime and would be interested in the one that needs the P/C depending on the rest of the condition.

It wasnt long ago that I bought a new piston assy from Poulan and they were indeed in stock. Took a while to get it though. In fact I think I have bought two of them over time.

The same piston is used in the 4200, 4400 and 6900. They also use the same cyl but I think the 6900 cyl may be different in the fins on the rear of the cyl like what I found on the 8500. If they are different, a 4200 cyl could be used but you would have to remove some of the rear fins to clear the intake/carb/reed adapter.

Pistons/Rings from Parts Tree. Ordred balance of parts from Jacks. Will let you know how it all pans out. I tried this before only waiting for 3-4 weeks on a non stock or discontinued item. Thats why I was hoping someone here had some extras to sale. Thanks for the input. TG
