Largest of those kind I have even seen is my 4000. Any of the rest, just pictures.

the way I look at it...if my 245a, or 3400 or 4000 or husky 365 cant handle the task....wellll..the echo 8000 might could...if that wont, wellll..the husky 394 should...if that still aint enough, welll... I am calling in my stunt double, and he can go find his own saw!

It's not that I need a saw that size it's that I want a saw of that size. I have a 475,
505, and two 395's and 4 J-red 670's. So that handles anything I want, and I want a 5200.

Glad ya got her apart! That looks eerily similar to what my 5200 looked like. At least what I can see, your crankcase is in better shape. Mine was full of the "White Death". Will be interesting to see what the reed cage looks like too.

Gregg,

well here ya go on the reed cage, glad i have the one on the right.View attachment 294658

i have everything cleaned up and ready to go back together, there was white death in the crankcase but not much, i know you guys will think i am crazy but i am going to put it back together this weekend and see what she will do.

Well...........we know you are crazy, but...........................what does that have to do with it?????

Awesome. So, with a 2.005" bore and picking the happy medium of 0.6% I get:

2.005" * .006 = 0.0123" ring gap. That's less that 1/64 (0.0156).

I hope I'm not over thinking/complicating this, but for clarity's sake... you did mean between .04% and .08% which is .004 and .008 in decimals and NOT between 4% and 8% which is .04 and .08 in decimals. Correct?

There is also a pin in the ring groove on this piston. How does that factor in? I assume I measure the pin, then add the ring gap to the pin measurement... voila done! Is it really that simple?

Thanks for bearing with me... this is my first ring replacement and I am a noobie to all this.

Should have used a penetrant like Aero Kroil oil instead of a lubricating oil.

Dump that out and get some good stuff in it and let it set. Come back in a few days (or less) and it will improbably free up.

You should have asked here first! LOL

Mark, Marvels is a pretty good penetrant and solvent....and not much of a lube. Not as good as kroil..but I don't think anything is. The advantage of MMO is it is available and cheap.....you don't have to mail order.
The tractor guys use it for piston soaks. The solvents in it works well on carbon. I use it for all sorts of stuff around the shop.

Oh I know what it does and its best used a air tool oil lubricant. :msp_wink:

Yeah it will help some but no way is it as good to use to break rust free as a good penetrant like Kroil, PB blaster or such.

When trying to save a hard to find P/C you want to use the most penetrating oil you can to give yourself the best chance of saving it.

Least that's the way I see it and have seen it used over the years.

well getting it apart is done now and i used a few lubricants and heat to get it done, The rings are frozen, more like welded into the piston, i am thinking heat is what caused the meltdown. The cylinder looks good and feels even better. i used PB Blaster and MMO and one other brand but the heat is what got it to move finally, anyway i will let you guys know how it turns out, thanks for the help yet agian.

CAD got the Best of Me

Last night I did a BIK on a Poulan Pro 325. Saw is missing the clutch cover so I'll have to look around for one. Believe this is the same as a Partner 5000 so options might be out there. Seller sad it ran with good compression but we'll see. Saw seemed to be in excellent shape cosmetically. Hopefully I did ok.

Good deal, you will like that one. I have a couple type 1 clutch covers here and can send you one of you like.

those rings can be removed but it might take some time and a little heat. place the piston top down in some penetrant deep enough to cover the rings. Heat the piston on the inside with a propane torch. The aluminum will expand faster than the carbon and steel rings. It might take a couple of cycles but they will pop loose. In this case you want to heat it all the way around for the best expansion.

I am sure that would work, sounds reasonable, but I would be scared there might be a flash if any fumes from the penetrant get to the flame on the torch. whoosh! I guess some heavy duty soap would be ok.

Hey this might seem awkward to ask,

but what do i need, to turn, lets say, husky 36, into one of those bright, nasty wild things ?

I sure would LOVE to have one annoyingly toned green/purple saw in the woods, im sure my work buddies would hate me but what the heck.

Seriously, i have one 36 husky and i hear they share same tech, but i could use all those happy-happy colour plastics etc :eek:uttahere2::bowdown:

Why not just get the real thing, it has more power then the 36.

They got them in Finland?

Nope, we sure dont see poulans here, unless once in century, in some cheap-o-market, but they are rare to ever encounter. In my 37 yr life, ive seen only one Poulan so far. I think we dong have any official import company representing Wild Things at all.

Complete saws, are expensive to ship, and they sure get to customs and they sure lay more taxes etc..... dang.

What if one was shipped in pieces as parts? it would be easier to ship as well.

That is an option for sure :msp_w00t:

By asking what husky parts they share, i was thinking of shipping weight / costs. The lighter tha package, the merrier and i can get some suitable parts, if they are on any husky IPL.

But man those are sick looking saws. Here, we have 80% Huskies, and maybe 15% Stihls, and the rest Jonsereds, doing job in the woods, and the people who double my towns population at summers, the big town rich folk, they bring the cheap-o-market weirdo-brand saws here...some end up in chainsaw shops to make head ache as well:eek:uttahere2:

If you need the plastic pieces to make a Wild Thing, I might be able to provide those. I've got a straight gassed Wild Thing that isn't worth rebuilding at the prices they go for over here. Might not be too bad just shipping the covers and such.
