5200 update

well getting it apart is done now and i used a few lubricants and heat to get it done, The rings are frozen, more like welded into the piston, i am thinking heat is what caused the meltdown. The cylinder looks good and feels even better. i used PB Blaster and MMO and one other brand but the heat is what got it to move finally, anyway i will let you guys know how it turns out, thanks for the help yet agian.

Well the install of the new Piston etc went ok and the cylindr looked good but when i satrted turning the engine over by hand i heard some friction. i took the cylinder back off and there was one little spot of chrome flaking on the cylinder, she already started to mark up the piston so i will be looking for another 5200 cylinder. it is a complete saw with 20 bar and newer chain. oh well i will hold on to it until i find a usable cylinder.View attachment 295021

It's a tad pricey but US Chrome will replate blind cylinders. $200

Any interest in this 295 I picked up yesterday? Story I got was that it was straight gassed, but I have not checked it out. I will be at the Indiana GTG on Saturday and could bring it along if anyone wants it.

Was that the one I saw on Ebay?

Sorry to hear this, but honestly, I'm not surprised at all with talk of using oil and force to free that stuck P/C.

Heat can be a double edged sword as well.

You guys can debate about you methods till the cows come home but in these cases Kroil oil kept wet and time is more time then not the only chance there is to free them up without damage.

No, haven't sold anything on e-Bay in 5+ years since I got stuck with an $800 bill shipping a 4 in 1 loader bucket to Washington state.

Bring it along,I can take it.We can work something out.

Will do, if you have any extra long bars that would work on my big Poulans that would be excellent.

I got these from a buddy of mine who works part time at an old school small engine place. The rest of his time he spends 'picking' and has a 4 bay garage filled with tools, signs, furniture and all sorts of other cool stuff. I could easily burn a week in there and still not see everything. He told me had had 2 Poulans, 1 Craftsman and 1 echo and they all had good compression. He didnt give me any details. When I got out of my truck and saw the gray and yellow 395 I was surprised. Its dirty but its in even better shape than my other one! That saw just needs a quick cleaning and some fuel parts.

Joe my friend you must be living right. That's another GREAT score. Even has an intact chainbrake setup.

Anyone know if a Craftsman Poulan 2000 2.0 is any good? I want to get a top handle for in the trees, but not sure if this is good. I read that Poulan is actually Husqvarna, but probably not in this case as it is marked Craftsman.
Thanks.

As already stated, that Craftsman 2.0 is indeed a Poulan 2000. Not made by Husqvarna, although Husky did sell a rebadged 2300 (they called it a 23), sometimes with a chainbrake. That's a good thing for me, as my local Husky dealer had the fuel cap and crank seals for my Poulan 2000 on the shelf!:D

Here's a green/black 2000 I just finished up. Never seen this before. The 'hairy' black stuff on the shop rag to the right of the old seal was ALL packed under the crank seal, between the seal and the bearing. There was none of that stuff outside of the seal. Nothing wrapped around the crank, etc. Weird. The little washer that goes on before the clutch parts wasn't there. Somebody must've left it out when servicing the clutch in the past. I put one from a parts saw on.

I'm thinking somebody got a bunch of that crap jammed up under the clutch cover and wound around the crank. They pulled the clutch apart to remove that stuff and left the washer out upon reassembly...........and didn't realized that some of the junk had worked it's way past the seal (damaging it in the process). I got it in trade from another AS member who had rebuilt the carb and told me the saw was still acting funny. When I got it the saw was acting like it had an air leak. Replacing the seals cured the leak and it runs fine again. It now resides with another AS member. He's been wanting a green Poulan (and a Micro) for a while. Two birds with one stone.

Micro XXV not drawing fuel

Working on a Poulan Micro XXV thats been sitting empty (no fuel - no bar oil) for about 6 years. Put on new fuel lines and filter (thanks for the tutorial Modifiedmark) rinsed the tank with fresh mix and refilled. Primed carb and started 5 or 6 times - won't draw fuel up to carb. Carb kit??? Suggestions???:msp_unsure:

Make sure the fuel line isn't pinched somewhere.

Carb kit is probably a good idea since the diaphragms may have become stiff. The gas cap also has a vent that needs to allow air to enter the tank as gas is pulled out. You could just loosen the cap a little to test that.

Good advice there. I'll add that the Micro is a saw that REALLY needs a healthy pump section in the carb. It has to pull fuel through about 15 miles of fuel line. New diaphragms/gaskets and screens (and a good cleaning) will help.

The earlier fuel caps are also crap. Either they pee fuel on your hand/leg/etc, or they don't breath and the saw will starve for fuel. The current replacement caps are much better and are about $5 and change at your local Husqvarna dealer. It should be a stocking part because of the Husqvarna 23 (rebadged Poulan 2300) and the various rebranded Weedeaters that Husky sold for a while in the 1990's.

530014347 is the current part number for the cap. Here's what it looks like.

I am glad you brought that up Aaron I have a couple of these that do exactly that. Thanks.

Poulan 2750 vs. 2800 vs PP295

Ok guys. We are looking at 46cc saws, two clamshells I believe, and one the smaller sister to the legendary 3000. Which to you guys prefer? I've used a 2800 and its a very good saw but you guys may have a differant take. I've never used a 2750 or PP295.

To whoever was asking a few days ago. I just ask the wife as I was printing out 2 bar cover decals for my play project. The decal paper is vinyl.

My MM'ed PP295 absolutely rips in compairson to my 2800, but it's not as fast as my 3000

good advice, the bend coming out of the tank is the main place to check.

The early caps with the clear dome inside the are supposed to be foam filled but most always are not as the original foam has long since dissolved. A easy fix is too remove the dome and fill it with some B&S air filter foam. It will pretty much fix the tank vent issue.
