Kosta, the 2500 and 2900 I have here are chrome bores and I think most of them in that series are...

You can never be sure with them.:msp_tongue:

Well the 2775 i have had aluminum bore.I thought that everything green was bare bore and only the yellow's have the chrome.I gave it to someone and he thought that it wasn't really necessary to add oil in the gas.:msp_mad:Anyway,i replaced the p/c and i took one from a 4620.The difference in compresion is huge.

If anyone was curious, here's what the p/c look like on the 2500 I have.

Best I could get, even with macro. Sometimes this camera just will not do exactly what you want it to do.

Especially compared to the one run w/o oil in the gas:hmm3grin2orange:

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Haha, that was good.I meant before the run with pure gas. When i took the 2775 the p/c was like new.I replaced the ring and i thought it had good compression. Now with the chrome bore, the definition of good compresion is totaly different.I clean the ports, advanced the timming, opened the muffler and it looks like a saw now.

No secret at all.:hmm3grin2orange: Just gave a reply like you would.

My opinion is that I could care less what a 77cc saw could time in a small piece of wood like that with someone timing them with a manual stop watch.

I tried them both with 28" bars buried in hardwood. The 475 was noticeably stronger then the 460. My old 6900 out pulled the 460 as well.

I have never ran my 475 against anything else because I do not have anything else that size. But I do have a couple of stock 036 Stihls and I have ran those against a Poulan 3700 that I did some mods on and it will cut circles around those Stihls. So much so if I keep the Stihls I am going to mod them also or else they will never get used.

Thats what I was figuring :msp_tongue::hmm3grin2orange:

I ran a stock 460 before and it was quite the turd IMO, was not impressed at all. It had plain front cover and pencil eraser size side outlet.

Now this 046 with D shaped combustion chamber and DP muffler opened up is a whole different animal. Owner will be happy with it being he bought it as non runner.

I ran a freshly rebuilt 460 last weekend (in madrone). My 4900 Poulan is MUCH stronger than a stock 460 in bigger wood. Heck, my stock 272XP felt stronger than the 460 stihl in the same wood....

Just goes to prove what I've always said, Them Stihl's are made for selling because those guys that want them will pay a premium. I've never seen a Stihl that run like I thought it should considering what they are made out to be......they sell good and to me that's all.....

If no one snags the 2500 soon, I'm gonna port it and muffler mod it and give it to pops for firewood cutting. Wonder what 40cc can do when the flame is put under its ass.

Maybe you can just get her to go visit her mother for a while? :hmm3grin2orange:

actually got a laugh out of me on that.
third day strait in the migraine pill bottle.

Guess i should note that she left about 20 years ago
And sadly, I'd wager I caused more headaches than I received.
we still do friendly email a bit though.

Is it a candidatate for a touch of muffler hole to port matcinhg ?

I know that most of you probably read Randy's (Mastermind) thread about the Husqvarna 394 that was "lost" :msp_angry: by the USPS.

The seller had several saws listed that he bought as a group from a USPS auction, one was a Poulan 400. I didn't bid on it becuase I didn't want to risk buying a saw that probably should have, and more importantly could have, been returned to its righful owner.

Exhaust side looks real good. Too dark to see the intake side of cylinder.

Intake side cylinder wall looks near new.

Absolutely. Bit of power to be had there. Might be helpful to match the intake side as well. Muffler mod might be a minor improvement as well.

Or get the saw and send it to Randy. Bet he could make this a little howling screamer of a 40cc class saw.

Gosh, that would be spending a lot of moola on that saw.

If I had the excess disposable income, I'd do it. It'd be one hell of a 40cc saw. Maybe throw a pipe on it too and run it off of nitromethane rc fuel through a custom intake and a Tilly HL carb.

Yes, Randy can make that a howling screamer.
But because it is a clamshell engine the cost would be prohibitive.
The port work is relatively simple but setting the squish would take a lot more time than most would be willing to pay for.

They actually run REALLY well with just a simple port widening, a bit of "flow enhancement" and a good muffler mod.

New to me 3.7

I've had this a day or two but just got around to cleaning it up. Needed new fuel lines, new air filter, new fuel filter and some tweaking on the carb. Previous owner had re-assembled parts incorrectly but didn't damage anything. 150 psi.

I paid almost $70 at a local pawn shop. :msp_w00t:

I need a weekend with cool weather to try it out. Soon. I'm itching to run this one after the 2800 did such a great job.
