Yes it would. Depending on the 5400 and if it had 5/16" studs or 3/8 would maybe mean having to drill out the cover for the 3/8" studs on the 8500.

If you really want a chainbrake on it, I suggest get one of the NOS cover kits from Bryce on ebay. They come with the stud that bolts to the case to support the rear of the cover which is needed.

That's the one I was looking at! I guess I should have asked if the one Bryce has would work :D

4200-5200 NOS cylinders.

in case you guys hadn't already spotted these cylinders on feebay.

I can't recall if it's been said in this little thread, but what's the biggest P&C that
will swap onto the Craftsman 3.7 ?
if it takes a bit of "clearanceing" I'm not opposed to that.
Once I see how healthy that really nice looking one that posted pics of a while back,
I may want to play around with the parts donor saw.
just gotta see how this knee work goes and then how well my spare change build back up.

edit: also on the jug swap thing, got 2900 (?) superclean, it's got the turbo air scoop thingy
46cc clamshell of course. anything that'll fit on it
or just a better rated version of the 46cc top end?

I know the 4000 is a direct bolt on. Other than that you'll have to hear from one of the modders.

redunshee Thanks.

I hope I'm not just deluding myself about getting things together.
at least if I end up leting go and clearing out inventory
then maybe it won't be just tossed for scrap like happened the last time
...didn't know about places like this (dozen or so years ago) and no one local
was interested in the old bits of randomness I had.

did find a guy that took the NOS Clinton stuff (I had caught the old dealer clearing it out)
Even had a rough but almost all there, (but non-original motor) Rupp Roadster
looked like this model.
http://www.vintagemotorsports.net/images/gallery/rupp2_lg.jpg

but the random saw stuff and dang service manuals from late 70's~early 80's Homelite ,Homlite/Jacobson lines just ended up in the recycle bin.

pained me to get rid of it all, but just seemed stuck in a kind of limbo with it
and finally needed the room for more current actively used stuff.

The neighborhood kids (in that 6 ~ 12 years range?)
all think that I have too much stuff and should have a yard sale.
but then they also think it's a cool spot to visit ("..you have everything!")
and I try to help keep their bicycles in decent shape if I see a problem.
seems I ended up being like the cool uncle that has neat stuff and tries
to teach them things and where safe, sometimes let them try out a drill
or do some basic wrenching to their own bikes.

Like Bob said, the 4000 P/C is the largest bolt on swap for the 3.7 The 4200/5200 won't swap with those. There is no intake/carb used on them. They use a reed valve system with the carb going through the crankcase. Don't think it can be done. Although, Arrowhead could probably do it! :hmm3grin2orange:

The p/c from a 4620 is the same but chrome cylinder instead of the bare bore that the 2900-2775 have. The only "upgrade" you can do on these.
I think, without beeing 100% sure that the 4620 top end might have a little more tight squish band than the 2900-2775 top end which is good.

Kosta, the 2500 and 2900 I have here are chrome bores and I think most of them in that series are...

Your late to the party. I already ran my 475 against a MS460.

Must be a big secret as you say. :hmm3grin2orange:

What was your opinion?

Here is mine.

Wood ash, 14.5" across x 12.5" deep. same square chain and 3/8 7T ran on both. Both were running fat at 12K due to breaking in with new rings and rebuilds.

046 has wide open dual port muffler with enlarged side exit too. D shaped combustion chamber.

475 stock muffler, no spark screen.

I always considered this 475 a good runner, so that is saying something when this 046 on it;s 1st tank was that much stronger.

The 046 was noticeably stronger in the cuts.

046 9.32 9.52

475 10.91 10.87

No secret at all.:hmm3grin2orange: Just gave a reply like you would.

My opinion is that I could care less what a 77cc saw could time in a small piece of wood like that with someone timing them with a manual stop watch.

I tried them both with 28" bars buried in hardwood. The 475 was noticeably stronger then the 460. My old 6900 out pulled the 460 as well.

I have never ran my 475 against anything else because I do not have anything else that size. But I do have a couple of stock 036 Stihls and I have ran those against a Poulan 3700 that I did some mods on and it will cut circles around those Stihls. So much so if I keep the Stihls I am going to mod them also or else they will never get used.

Thats what I was figuring :msp_tongue::hmm3grin2orange:

I ran a stock 460 before and it was quite the turd IMO, was not impressed at all. It had plain front cover and pencil eraser size side outlet.

Now this 046 with D shaped combustion chamber and DP muffler opened up is a whole different animal. Owner will be happy with it being he bought it as non runner.

I ran a freshly rebuilt 460 last weekend (in madrone). My 4900 Poulan is MUCH stronger than a stock 460 in bigger wood. Heck, my stock 272XP felt stronger than the 460 stihl in the same wood....

My other point is about stop watches. I don't believe in them when your trying to get down that close in .10 of a second or less.

There only as good as the person running them and I know of know one that good and consistent with them.

When people start posting times like that I just shrug them off.

I appreciate the info on the 3.7 & 2900, guys.
Now i just need to lose this headache
