I bought this "parts saw" from Craigs List.
The man I bought it from got it from his mother who was the origional owner after his father passed away. He told me that he heats with wood and used this saw for many, many years (15-20 couldn't exactly remember) as his only saw to do all his cutting. He eventually bought a couple of lighter weight Stihls and this has been in his workshop for several years. He couldn't remember if it ran or not or even how many years ago it had been since it was used. He told me he wouldn't be suprised if it was all used up, that is why he had it priced at $15. He said he thought the case was worth that much.
He has tried for several months to sell this but people would call and just never show up. I talked to him last night ande assured him that I would be there today to get the saw, even though it was a rather long drive (300 miles round trip). It cost me about $25 in gasoline and the better part of the day to get this thing.
I got it home, saw that the fuel tank was bone dry, so I filled it with fresh mix. The Oil tank was about half full.:hmm3grin2orange:
I set the choke, pulled it 3 times and it popped. (the compression seems very good), I pushed the choke in and pulled it again and it fired right up. It revs and idles just like a new saw. The oiler seems to work well also.:hmm3grin2orange:
This must have been a fairly well built saw to have lasted this long. The owner told me that he had the anti vibe bushings replace 3 or 4 times and had it maintained by a local saw shop. I noticed that all the cover screws look like stainless steel allan head screws, I don't think those are origional equipment.
It almost makes up for the Poulan 4200 that I missed out on a couple of days ago...
Now to my question. What size is this thing! And what model Poulan/Craftsman do I call it? The only identification I can find on it is the model number 358.356070
Hanging on the hook of shame it is just a tad under 16 pounds with a full tank of fuel. Not to bad for an old saw.
