Does anyone have the workshop manual for an 8500 in electronic format? Jockeyduece has a case for me so looks like I'm in business. A guy I work with can do powder coating for me, whats the best color for the green & black, & anything else to look out for?

The best thing to do for paint, is have some custom mixed. I know Mark did, and I should have.. I bought paint from some outfit in Calif. Was called Sublime green, but is more green than it should be. Should be a tad more yellowish. It don't look bad by itself, but when next to an original, there is big difference. Looks more like Kawasaki green than Mopar.

Gregg,

Well I have looked around & i guess there won't be a case gasket for the seam line. What do you guys use on the seam for sealer? After looking around at several different places looks like I can get the reed gasket, is that the only one you guys typically replace or do you pickup some material & make your own or am i looking in the wrong places for this type stuff? Thanks

Gregg,

Well, I like Kawasaki green! Reminds me of a couple of KDX 200s I was very fond of!

I have a SM that covers the 4200/4400/4900/5200/6900/7700/8500, size 2.11MB, 18 pages. It doesn't include IPLs, which isn't surprising at only 18 pages.

I'm pretty it came from someone here, mostly likely Modified Mark,
but I do suffer from CRS and CRAFT.

You will have to make your own I'm afraid. I had a couple gasket sets in the past, so was good to go. But will need to make them in the future. I'll send ya a .pdf that some fine folks here made up of the gasket patterns. The template are true size when viewed at 100% in the reader.

Gregg,

I changing out the cases on a 3400 yesterday (thanks Mark) and am assembling the rest of the saw today and found something out i didn't know.
There are two different left side cases that have a different size oil plug filler hole than the cases I have. I found a plug to use for try out on my 3.7 Craftsman 3800. It must have been an improvement to increase the size of the filler hole.

The only constant is change......interesting, are you building a 3400 or a 3.7?

It's a Craftsman 3.4. The rear AV mount was broken on the left side so I changed the case out. It's back together now and runs great. Both oilers are working very well. The case is green now so I may turn it into a 3400. I'll try it in wood tomorrow if it quits snowing.
I think it's well worth the time to tear the saws down and change out the gaskets and seals and whatever else they need. They seem to perform really well after that.

You need to make a gasket out of the correct thickness gasket material to keep the case spacing correct.

Making gaskets is just part of old saws.

Would anyone know the part number for the 7/8" oil cap for a 3800? It doesn't seem to appear anywhere on my IPL's

Tim, I'm not much help unfortunately, but I know I have run across some what I presume to be early 3400's and maybe 3700's that have a different style oil cap. They have the straight tabs on the cap, as opposed to the more common rounded type. I know they won't interchange. At least they didn't for me.

Gregg,

Thanks for the replies.
I am still lost.
Looking at my saws, I have 4 with the rounded larger fill hole caps and 4 + the broken case that have the smaller old style straight tabs caps.
I think the 10444 is a rounded style but 3/4" filler hole which is listed as the cap for my 2300CVA.
23874 only comes up for the S25 and PP180

Tim,
Put up a pic if you have one, and a measurement. I don't know what to look for.
