let's just say i had one heck of a good day today, on top of it all i spent very quality time with two of my children and spoke to my other child on the phone, whom will be back home late tonight from Florida.

Ha. Probably. My wife loves coming up with all kinds of creative ways to misspell saw names when searching for me. Mac's really frustrate her though. Haha

My break and spinner arrived yesterday as well. Says made in Italy so I think it is a good set.

Well I finally got a chance to put this HDA-49 carb on a 3450 to replace the troublesome HDA-164 that was on it.

The saw started right up, idles perfect and seems to run great. Put the tach on it and with it just 4 stroking a bit it only turned about 12800-13000. Not really surprising as the 49 is a much smaller carb and it would restrict the top end air flow but I'm betting at cutting speeds it might pull just as hard as the bigger carb.

I'll try to get it in the wood tomorrow and find out for sure.

Not much going on here. No heated work shop and to cold to work on any thing. I have plenty of projects and have been gathering some parts. Those HDA 164 carbs seem to be hit and miss. I have a few saws with those and so far they are ok.

Hopefully I will be going to get some more firewood this week.

I just finished up a 2800. Ill post up some pics and the details later. This saw has the hda 49. I think I have a 3.3 sear parts saw that has one as well. Good to know if one of my 3 330s acts up. Havent looked, so not sure what carb the 365 has.

The 365 has a HDA 49 also.

That's what made me think to try it on the 3450. The 365's at 60cc run pretty darn good so I figured that carb would still be big enough to run a 54cc 3450 ok.

Mark did you ever get any run time on Ed's 2.8 with the 038 mag top end? I picked up what i believe is a 380 with scored top end & kicking around a similar swap.

How often do y'all see a Craftsman 3.4/16"? Poulan CounterVibe 3400s seem to be fairly common, but I don't recall ever before seeing a Craftsman 3.4.
There area a lot of craftsman 3.4's in Canada. Numbers may even be higher than Poulan 3400's. A 16" bar would be rare here though. I think almost all of them were sold with 20" banana bars or Windsor speed tips.

Im kickn that around, but that 038 sure sounded sweet in Ed's video. I was just readin on here about that 039 piston, didn't hear of anyone comfirming it was a good go or not. I'll check it out. Is there enough meat up there to drop the top ring & machine a pop up? From what I can tell this saw is missing the recoil, air filter cover, & the muffler front. I should have it friday & go over this weekend.

No I have not done the swap, just something Ed and I were looking at last time I was over there. Looks doable and it probably wood involve taking the top down a bit but looked to have plenty to work with.

I just seen some Super 380 parts listed on ebay so you know, there was a recoil and covers on it.
