Couple questions for y'all. First one of my PP330's the "silencing" foam inside the aitmr filter cover has become detached...I can't tell a difference really with it in or out...reglue it or toss it....second question...when deleting the base gasket on the cylinder/jug what do you guys recommend to seal it? I have some thoughts being an auto mechanic myself...but I want to hear the voices of experience

Good questions.
Like JJ said lose the foam.
For sealing in place of a base gasket I use Yamabond. It is specifically made for sealing the crank cases on 2 cycle engines.

At work I rarely trust untreated paper gaskets. Had too many of them "weep"...typically coat them with a very conservative coating of something. Usually rtv...sometimes just grease (makes for easy disassembling later) really anything to seal the paper and combat it's capillary tendencies.....depends on the application....my $.02

Well, guess I should of thought about that. The other case split I did has held up, guess I'll just hope for the best on this one.

9 times out of 10 if duplicate what the factory did you'll be fine. Why I like OEM and OEM nos parts so much...if factory fitted lasted 20 years and 100s even 1000s of hours why shouldn't the replacement?

Also you're dealing with oil, fuel, and vapors, which aren't as bad as water/coolant at seeping and they won't corrode the mating surfaces like water will, worst case is minor oil seepage, and what chainsaw isn't covered in an oily film 98% of the time lol (and yes I clean my saws religiously lol)

Roger.....You could always use a K&N prefilter screen material glued on the inside of the modified air filter covers. Sort of how dolmar did it when updated their 6400-7900 AF covers. ;)
Kinda along the lines of what I was thinking....still letting the air though, but keeping the wood chips out! It's gotta free it up quite a bit with the holes in the cover like that. I don't see how air really gets too easily otherwise.
