Hmmm..
I have a chance to check out 3 saws..
McCulloch Mini Mac 30
Remington 816AV
Craftsman 2.3 14 (which I believe means it will be a Poulan 2300AV)

Kind of excited. Gentleman says they haven't been used for years, and he doesn't have time to get them running. Hoping I can scoop all three on the cheap. $100 or less is my goal, assuming complete saws, not seized.

Set your target lower. Much lower. Did they run when he set them down?

4200 update. Did a couple new gaskets last night and it didn't help. With the idle screw barely in and the H and L screws each at one turn, the saw runs and the chain goes quite fast like the throttle is partially engaged. Then with the L turned almost closed it will show the chain but not stop it. Then with H and L closed it won't start. Is it the clutch?

It's more a symptom of my the market I'm in. That $100 was assuming they did run when he put them down, and that they have some compression. Basically stuff a tuning and cleaning will have running, maybe needing a chain.

I will definitely start lower (say, $20 a saw) but I will top out at $100. Unless something is in barely used shape - just not used in awhile. Then I might consider a little more - anyone have opinions on any of these units ? First chainsaw smaller than 56cc for me lol

Yeah I wish I was in a market like that. The Mac is the least interesting to me, I admit.

Meeting the fellow in a few minutes. I'll tell ya how I do.

I'm not too far from Maine, but this isn't really Down East Dickering country where I am.

Price wasn't discussed before we arranged a place to meet. He's bringing the saws, it was a response to an ad i placed on Kijiji.

I do appreciate the feedback.

I'll try $10 a saw, and a few more bucks for his time and gas - $45 starting offer perhaps. I'll wait to see them first ! Lol

Received my 3400 that I bid on and didn't expect to win. Funny how that happens. Only bid cause the exterior was in great shappe w/o hardly any paint loss. Any event I checked compression and it blew 150. In the back of my mind I said"that's not normal". Maybe there was some oil in the cylinder; I'll find out when I tear it apart. Seals failed the pressure test so I'll be replacing them with my new SKF 6119 seals. Plan to bevel each boss using Mark's jacknife method. I'm hoping to sell it and recoup my $. However I've seen 3400 prices all over the place.

My first impression is you have an air leak somewhere. Did you pressure/vacuum test the saw? Has the fuel spitting issue been resolved? That doesn't seem like a prssure/vac issue.

Ok, there were 5 of them. Paid $60

One is a "white lightning" there's a craftsman 2.0, the 2.3, the mini Mac 30, and the Remington 816AV

The craftsman were run last season. Are these rebadged Poulans?

I have not pressure/vacuum tested it. I don't know how or what tools are required. There is still some fuel coming out of the front of the muffler. I don't know, maybe the carb is just bad since the carb kit didn't help anything.

I'm going to try and shoot a short video and post it here tonight of the 4200 and what it's doing. Maybe that will help diagnose what might be wrong.

That's more like it.
The c-mans are poulan micros.

One is Craftsman 2.3 - 14. Same as Poulan 2300A, 38 cc ? Or are we talking a different beast - well, critter maybe, than Micro?

Two of the bunch were fired up tonight. The 2.0 and the 2.3 Serviceable. Hoping to give the 2.3 to the guy I was trying to fix a doomed Poulan Pro 42cc for, but we'll see. Not sure what bar I might be able to put on the 38cc guy, or if it's worth trying.

The 2.3 doesn't have a chain brake, the 2.0 does.

What would you all pay for a Poulan 245A in good cosmetic condition, that starts, but needs a carb kit and some tuning?
