Make sure you let us know how this works out. Just so I'm on the same page your putting a 2.3ci P/C from a S23 arbor pro saw on a Poulan 2000 right?

Should be smooth sailing.

Yep, I found a new cylinder on ebay, and outdoordistributers has the piston kit for $25, this is the two ring piston too. Also I see an upgraded clutch for the S23, since I need a new sprocket I'll get that too. All total parts should be about $60.

Question what kind of a chain and what bar length should I use??

Did some research for anyone who care's, the crank and rod assemblys for the 2000 share the same numbers with a Poulan Pro S23 Arbor Pro. So I'm getting it, did comp test cold on my saw and only saw 117 PSI, comprared that with my other 2000 that has no more then 2 hrs on it has 170 PSI.

A few years back when I was new to this, I searched for a cylinder because mine was scored only to find they don't make the 2000 cylinder anymore, so I got a new ring and did the best I could with the cylinder and piston. Saw runs OK, got a whistle when pulling on startup with throttle open which proves air is leaking by. So I'll look at it as I'm putting a big block in.lol

The little reed saws make a funny whistling sound sometimes. it does not prove that air is leaking anywhere. Mike

Would use 14" bar (preferable) or possibly 16" max. Recommend Oregon 91VX chain. That's Oregon's low pro non-safety chain.

Cool thanks.

One other thing, I noticed the S23 has a different reed set up as it uses a reed stop also, since the gaskets are the same I'll assume the mounting flange is the same. Would it be better then the single reed setup?? I'm also assuming since the S23 was the final micro Poulan made any updates would better then the old??

Craftsman question

Did Craftsman offer the 3.7 Poulan made saw with the power sharp? I have someone describing an old red Craftsman to me over the phone, and I'm trying to decide weather I want to take the drive 40 miles to see it. She said the bar is 20 inches, and its red with black stripes. I needs the recoil rope, and it runs.

Yes, They sure did. Mine doesn't have the Power Sharp, but they did have some with it. Several members here have such a beast.:)

Are you there yet? :)

The Power Sharp version is 358.354870 PS. There was also a Roper made 3.7 saw with Power Sharp. model 917.353770/771.

Not sure about the 3.7 but I have a Craftsman 2.0 with power sharp, so they probably did. Mine's been removed, however.

So I recently got my hands on a nice 3300. It's a nice saw, but it has 1 little issue.

When it warms up, after about a minute or two of running it dies. It won't start again until it cools off for a little bit. But once it's warmed up it dies out. When it dies it acts as if it's run out of fuel - kinda like the RPMs drop for a second, then it revs a bit then just flat out dies.

I asked BloodOnTheIce about it as he's the one I got the saw from. He suggested that it may be a bad coil. Any thoughts guys??

Yup Gregg, I have a beast you speak of. I have to post some pics of my red/black 3.7 as it looks a little different. But yes mine does have the powr shrp. There was a push button that went thru the carb box and into the clutch cover. I took mine off tho. I have to come up with a goodway to cover the hole since it acts as a chip exhaust right to my face!

My S25 did the same thing, I thought it was a carb issue which was frustrating since I re-built the whole saw. I had checked the spark when I got it and it was fine. When I checked it again, after it shut off I had no spark. Bad coil, this saw had electronic ign like yours and these poulan igns are pretty bullet proof. Generally they work or don't, which is why I was thrown off with my 2.3.

After it dies, pull the plug and check for spark. I'm betting that when the coil is warm it quits.

Gregg,

Have one exactly like yours Gregg. Its in almost new condition and I've never used it except when I tune it. Have two other Poulan 3700's and just got a 3700 Bowsaw. Saw is in fair shape cosmetically but it showed 145 comp. Pulled cylinder cause it had an air leak in the intake manifold and I couldn't get a socket or screw driver on bolts. Put it back together w/o a gasket and I'll be interesed to see if any comp. increase is realized. Also had to replace clutch side crank seal that was leaking. I'll see how it runs in a couple days.

Picked this 2000 up for $20, needs a fuel line and doesn't look like it has more then one chains worth of use. It didn't have a chain, the guy just included this one, it says Oregon 91 on the chain, although this chain looks pretty shot too.

25 family

My dad asked me to get his S25 ready for this week. He bought this new in 1980 and has taken good care of it. I had a 14" on it but I found a good 16" so I put that on it, which is what it originally wore anyway. I made sure it fired up and idled good, I hadnt started it in months. While I was at it I figured Id go thru the rest of them. I pulled the Dayton next. Thats the only saw Ive gotten form a yard sale. Got it for $5 "saw wont cut!" the guy said I took it off his hands then I put the chain on right:). I hadnt started this one in a year, 5 pulls, up and running like new. Its a 2.3 SS saw with a 16" non banana bar. After that I grabbed my 2.1 craftsman Powersharp. I wonder if this saw even had 1 tank thru it. Runs nice 14", I cant remember if its points or SS.
Last is my recently built 2.3. I painted the carb cover and replaced the power sharp with a traditional cover and painted it too. This saw had intermitent spark. Strange as I always heard the SS igns either work or dont. I had a spare so on it went. Best top handles built in my opinion. 3 have the SS igns, not sure on the 2.1
